Thinking of name Malachy...

So we have baby number 2 on the way… another boy!

We like the name Malachy (Mal-a-key), we have A LOT of Irish connections so like that it is Irish.

I did read somewhere that there was a Malachai (Mal-a-kai, a biblical name) character in a horror movie called children of the corn. Now whilst this does not bother me in the slightest, what does niggle me is the fact that the other main character along with Malachai was Isaac. These two characters were knife yielding parents killers!

The reason I EVEN bring this up is because our first son is called… yep you guessed it… Isaac! Haha. Of course.

Is this a silly connection? I just worry people might associate my boys with these characters, or people ask me if they are named after the kids in the movie.

Malachy and Malachai are actually two names with two origins but they sounds quite similar and I just wanted some outside opinions on it!

Thanks. :)

I really like Malachy and would consider it if I ever had a DS.
I’ve never heard of the characters you mention and there must be loads of sibling sets from books and films.
If you want to avoid it though but have something similar there’s Macauley or Mackenzie?

I've seen Children of the Corn, and I didn't remember the characters' names at all. I suspect most people wouldn't make the connection. Don't worry about it and use Malachy if you like it!

That's quite funny Grin

It wouldn't have meant anything to me but there are a lot of horror fans and a lot of Stephen King fans about so you might well get the odd comment about potentially murderous offspring even with the Malachy/Malachai difference.

Malachy from Children of the Corn was the first thing I thought about. Evil connotations for me I'm afraid.

Thanks! I'd never heard of it either. Just wanted to make sure it wouldn't be a constant source of questioning. Seems like it won't. Yayy!
I really like Malachy and it means 'second- usually given to a son born second, so quite appropriate I think!

I have an Isaac and have seen Children of the Corn, but still didn’t occur to me! Malachy in my head is just so, so different to Malachai because of their origins (even if they do look/sound alike). Michael could be another option if you’re still on the fence, but personally I wouldn’t worry.

Thanks all!
