Hi all. I’m currently pregnant and finding boys’ names a lot tougher than last time round.

Last night I started thinking about Conrad and I think I quite like it. I’ve only ever met one, which I like (I teach a lot of students so I’d rather avoid more popular names - I get bored of them quickly as I come into contact with so many) and I think it just seems like quite a cool, strong name? I can imagine a Conrad being the hero in a romance novel Grin Also, I quite like the shortening Con.

I did a search on here and, while some people see it as posh, others see it as chavvy! I found all sorts of weird and random associations.

I’d like to hear more up-to-date opinions as a lot of the threads I looked at were years old.

Thanks Smile

Sorry about the spelling errors, new phone - DH is not a fan and I wouldn't use a nn.

*@MaMelon I hope we’re not that type of family! 😇 *

I’m sure you’re not! Grin

It does have a slightly Geordie Shore feel, but on the other hand you could just heart of darkness fans. I mean, it’s ok.

I think like all surnames as first names, if it gets popular it will go downmarket (I don’t know why this happens..) but it isn’t popular, so...

PrimulaPrimrose · 15/06/2021 21:16

But it is a first name. Conrad is the name of German kings.

PoliceDogWoof · 15/06/2021 21:16

I only ever knew one and he had a yacht. So to me it sounds more rich than "posh".

PrimulaPrimrose · 15/06/2021 21:19

Calvin makes me smile as a trendy name as I guess it became used as a first name in tribute to Protestant John Calvin?

PoliceDogWoof · 15/06/2021 21:19

Conlaith is more usable to me. I only know one! Again, but it sounds less "make way, i need to anchor my yacht".

Just my perceptions

Onlinedilema · 15/06/2021 21:22

I like it.

meringue33 · 15/06/2021 23:01

Like it. There is a great kids book called Conrad’s War and the boy called Conrad in it is very funny.

meringue33 · 15/06/2021 23:02

Con to me would be short for Connor or Connell which are also nice names

DentonsFringeArnottsWaistcoat · 15/06/2021 23:35

I like it but there’s also something about it that says Dynasty or even Mills and Boon. I was going to suggest Cormac, which I love , but you’ve already mentioned that. I also love Conleth.

peaceinourtime · 16/06/2021 05:29

I had a Conrad in my class in high school. Go for it, its not common

SoapboxFox · 16/06/2021 05:38

Conrad sounds weak not strong IMO. It makes me think of someone pampered and ineffectual.

Love Magnus and Caspar of the suggestions.

I love the name, would have called DS it but DH didnt like it Hmm . It reminds me of a song of the same name by Ben Howard who I love.
