Margot
Cleo
Lucia

Lucia should be pronounced loo-ch-ia

krj2688 · 14/06/2021 14:32

I really like cleo and Lucia, prefer Lucia. I'm really not keen on Margot just personal preference x

Classica · 14/06/2021 14:34

Cleo - love this one. Short and simple with a bit of zhuzh.

Lucia - Nice name. I would assume Italian pronunciation so you'd need to correct me. Reminds me of Mapp and Lucia.

Margot - super trendy right now. Not a bad name but in a couple of years we'll be at Margot saturation point

SoapboxFox · 14/06/2021 14:56

Cleo is quite nice although you may get tired of predictable 'car' comments.

Lucia is pretty, although I prefer the Italian pronunciation or simply Lucy.

I'm not keen on Margot and would say it's too harsh and faddy.

Happenchance · 14/06/2021 17:42

Margot
Lucia (this would be first if it were pronounced Loo-chi-a
Cleo (I'm not a fan of Cleo but like Cleopatra)

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 14/06/2021 17:44

Margot is so good life 1970s
Cleo love
Lucia- won’t be pronounced like that - loo-chi-a a lifetime of correctly people

FelicityPike · 14/06/2021 17:44

Margot
Lucia
Cleo (am not a fan)

Junipersky · 14/06/2021 17:54

Lucia (love it pronounced that way but could be confusing as I've heard it said four different ways).
Margot - I'm growing to like this now.
Cleo - My least preference but it's OK.

Ikeameatballs · 14/06/2021 17:55

Cleo
Lucia, I prefer the loo-ch-ia pronunciation
Margot, I just see maggot.

NcagainNC · 14/06/2021 17:55

Lucia should be Loo-chee-uh

I only like Cleo though

AnnaSW1 · 14/06/2021 17:58

I love Lucia but not the way you want to pronounce it

Amdone123 · 14/06/2021 18:01

Cleo - why do I think of Kenny Everett? Quite like it, aside from that.
Lucia - yes, like it. Prefer Lu - chee- a.
Margot - am hearing quite a few at the moment. The new Mabel.

Mynextname · 14/06/2021 18:02

Sorry none but Maggie is a nice nickname for Margot.

Pemba · 14/06/2021 18:11

Lucia is lovely and would be my favourite. There are umpteen different pronunciations though, which may be a pain. Dunno what comes to mind, a pretty woman, from continental Europe?

Cleo is my second favourite, unusual and quite pretty. Cleo Laine the jazz singer comes to mind, the girl group 'Cleopatra' from the nineties, and of course the Egyptian queen and the Shakespeare play 'Antony and Cleopatra'. On the whole I find Chloe prettier though.

Margot, hmm, I don't hate it, but not mad keen. Very grown up. Margot from 'The Good Life'. Margot Fonteyn the ballerina.

faithfulbird20 · 14/06/2021 18:16

Cleo someone from big brother

Lucia hmm it's okay

Margot - Margaret thatcher

TwinsAndTrifle · 14/06/2021 18:16

Cleo. Renault.

Lucia. Lovely, and much prefer your pronunciation to the other that has been suggested.

Margot. Not PC to say, but I think this is one of those names where parents make their child (themselves) sound pretentious. It's one of those names frequently used where someone is joking about "Tarquins and Hugos" to be disparaging about "posh" people.

elp30 · 14/06/2021 18:24

I have a Lucia (it's pronounced 'Loo-see-ah' because I have Mexican heritage) so it's my favorite of the three.

mammmmmma · 14/06/2021 18:34

Thanks for the comments.

There are many ways of pronouncing Lucia depending on where you are from so "Loo-chee-ah" is only correct in certain parts of the world. In others it's "Loo-thee-ah" or "Loo-sha". I've only ever heard of "Lu-see-ah" where I'm from and don't mind correcting people Smile

Also the Renault Clio comments are valid! But again, not too bothered.

As for Margot seeming pretentious - that did worry me.

Do you like Martha?

lightningpeach · 14/06/2021 19:54

Cleo
Lucia
Margot

I really like the top two but not that keen on Margot personally.

lightningpeach · 14/06/2021 19:58

I didnt actually make the Renault connection because of the different spelling!
Also, I've known two Lucias (one a baby and one a 30 year old woman) and both names were pronounced Lu-see-ah.

pilates · 14/06/2021 20:00

Love Lucia
Not keen on Margot or Cleo

ame88 · 14/06/2021 20:07

I love Margot! It's on my list but fiancé vetoed it

partyatthepalace · 14/06/2021 21:58

Cleo - love it
Lucia (pronounced loo-see-ah) - like it but it is usually either Loo-chi-ah, which is the ‘proper’ Italian/European pronunciation, or Loo-sha in the US) so I think that might be a pain in the arse
Margot - like it but getting quite popular

Lois might be another thought?

Honeycombskl · 14/06/2021 22:02

Lucia would be lovely if you are Italian (pronounced Loo-chee-a) or pronounced Loo-see-a if you're Spanish. It's one of those names I'd think was strange to be used of someone who isn't of that heritage.

Cleo is cute and unusual and I think Margot is lovely.
