What do you think of Ellis, for a girl?

Does tend to become 'El' as a short version, that's my only caveat.

I prefer it as a girls name. I know a little Ellis, it suits her perfectly and is a lovely name. And nobody has ever called her Ellie, and why would they, it's not a shortened version of Ellis!

I don't think it sounds trashy, just very masculine (cf Eliot), and I also really dislike the way boy names get taken for girls, then become unusable for boys. I do like other non-traditional names.

But really, choose the name you like, not what Mumsnet likes!

I’m still flummoxed that you are choosing names so incredibly similar to your husband’s ex’s name or maybe I’ve misread that.
I have an American relative called Ellis - male so I can’t see it another way easily.
Then I think Ellis Brigham - big ski/climbing shop.
Congrats op.
