Edmund or Inigo?

Ds due soon! We struggled to agree on names but finally have a shortlist of Edmund (nn Ned) or Inigo. I’m interested in peoples thoughts on these names. They’re very different styles so I suppose I’m trying to work out which feels more right for us. Thanks :)

They are v different names, both fine

Love Inigo and know one.

Much prefer Edward to Edmund - the latter to me is forever Blackadder.
Also rather dweeby.

SuperMonkeys · 30/05/2021 07:20

I know and Inigo, and it really doesn't roll off the tongue in real life. It's quite an awkward sounding word. He's called Inny most of the time.

Dislike Edmund too. It just sounds bland. Prefer Edward.

MaidEdithofAragon · 30/05/2021 07:20

Edgar is nicer than Edmund.

TatianaBis · 30/05/2021 07:22

Yes I like Edgar too.

I’ve never had a problem pronouncing Inigo.

BikeRunSki · 30/05/2021 07:23

Edmund will always be Blackadder to me.....

Inigo is Inigo Jones.

I prefer Inigo.

SuperMonkeys · 30/05/2021 07:24

It isn't hard to pronounce, just a kind of awkward word to say. Doesn't have any natural flow

SuperMonkeys · 30/05/2021 07:24

Like Edgar though

I love Edmund, and Ned is a sweet nickname (bear in mind though that he might grow up and want to be Ed/Eddie/Ted etc.). Inigo Montoya was my first thought, but it's a nice name which by far predates the film. Mumsnet tend to be fairly conservative with name choices though, so I wouldn't expect it to be well liked on here.

If you aren't sure which fits you best, you could try using both names in various situations. The Starbucks test is a popular one, but you could also jut try calling the names upstairs, imagine introducing yourself with Ned or Inigo at a baby group and one might feel more right. There are websites where you can enter any name and it will put it into a variety of common sentences too.

Or if you really aren't sure, you could always wait until he is born, and one might just feel right when you need him.

Edmund betrayed his brother and sisters to the White Witch, but it's better than Inigo, sorry OP.

RuthW · 30/05/2021 12:30

Edmund

I love Edwin though.

SionnachRua · 30/05/2021 12:55

Very different names Grin

Inigo = Inigo Montoya to me.
Edmund is ok but a bit dull and plodding.

Threelittlemonkeyss · 30/05/2021 13:11

Haha, seems they’re both not popular choices! Thank you for the feedback. The narnia connection does put me off Edmund even though it was my g grandpas name. And I do love Inigo but I’m taking on board that it seems it’s unfamiliar/possibly awkward to say. I’m not someone who wanted a super rare name (my fave were Wilfred and Kit) it just happened we agreed on so few there wasn’t much to choose from. Anyway, many thanks :)

To get MN approval it has to be super conservative.

Ollie, Max, Leo, Oscar

Threelittlemonkeyss · 30/05/2021 13:23

Thanks TatianaBis!

After the update , I prefer Kit to any of your other choices. Maybe Christopher, NN Kit.

Jizzonmy · 30/05/2021 22:27

Inigo for sure

I also love Wilfred and Kit!

I’d go in this order:
Wilfred
Edmund
Kit
Inigo

SavannahLands · 31/05/2021 11:48

Edmund

inigomontoyahwillcox · 31/05/2021 11:49

Well, obviously I'm gonna say Inigo 😁

Skyliner001 · 31/05/2021 15:46

Inigo 🤣

ShoeJunkie · 31/05/2021 16:50

Inigo is DS1’s middle name (DH is in to architecture). We weren’t brave enough to use as his first name then but now I kind of wish we had been!

Angel2702 · 31/05/2021 16:52

Edmund

xprincessxjanetx · 31/05/2021 16:59

I prefer Edmund.

Chilldonaldchill · 31/05/2021 23:24

I like Inigo.
I do genuinely think he'll have a lifetime of people saying "you killed my father; prepare to die" but it's not a bad cultural reference really.
Edmund is nice too and he comes out of the Narnia series well in the end so the traitor bit wouldn't put me off.
