Alternative to Thea?

I have always loved the name Thea but my friend gave it to her daughter about a year ago. Any alternatives that I could use? We are a French/English and Finnish couple and it is hard to find a name that fits on all languages and Thea was exactly this :(

Thora?

More Scandinavian than Finnish, but I really like the name.

Although I think Swedish is a relatively well-known language in Finland.

If you love the name Thea, then name your daughter Thea. I called my daughter Darcie which I had chosen for her when I was very young. If a friend had a daughter first and named her Darcie, I would congratulate her on having such great choice in names. Your baby, your choice for name. Don't care what anybody says.

Dora?

Iknowtheanswer · 27/05/2021 18:26

I've always loved Thea (I have a Theo).

She's in another country, so the children won't play together often - I'd call her Dorothea and use Thea as a short name.

AnyaMoondial · 27/05/2021 18:28

Ooooo I absolutely love Ida!!

DustyNo1 · 27/05/2021 18:35

Thea is a beautiful name. If you're worried about your friend getting upset, talk to her about it. Let her know how you feel. She will probably be very excited. I would never had chosen different names for my 2 children based on friends baby being born first and had your favourite name stolen 😆

Otherwise, what about

Dia
Tia
Kia
Mia

Thanks really nice comments and name suggestions here! I guess I should have told her more directly at the time that Thea was one of my favourite names, so it wouldn't look so much like I'm stealing the name now :/ We have a mutual friendship group that gets together few times a year so it might get a bit akward, but I doubt that we will ever live in the same country again.

Hilma is a beautiful name. I think it's even prettier than Thea😊

Lollypop4 · 27/05/2021 19:12

I have a Thea, Its a lovely name and if you like it, Still use it!

AnyaMoondial · 27/05/2021 19:20

Maybe Hilda? Love Hilda.

partyatthepalace · 27/05/2021 19:51

Go for Thea
Ida is a poor second, and Hilma... no
But if not then Anna, Hanna(h), Sara(h), Emma, Katrina or Maria are all pretty universal in Europe - and poss Stella, Tessa, Elsa, Elisa, Ella, Freya, Thora, Lara also

Serpenta · 27/05/2021 20:15

What about Tove? I believe it's Swedish but Tove Jansson was Finnish so could that be a goer, or is it considered very old-fashioned?

I think it's lovely.

Nualay · 28/05/2021 10:26

Oh I LOVE Ida! And Hilma is nice too. Imo they are both really lovely and much more original than Thea which is becoming very common. I also think you could just use Thea though if that's your favourite - maybe just talk to your friend about it? Pretend you don't know the baby's sex yet and say 'We have Thea on our list in case it's a girl, would you find that really weird? I've loved the name forever.'

Pinkypink · 28/05/2021 16:33

Please use Thea. Its beautiful.
Esp if you aren't in the same country.
I don't like your other names. Sorry
