Baby name opinions please!

Hi!

I’m 28 weeks and decided not to find out whether it’s a boy or a girl. DH and I are utterly clashing on names and can’t agree on anything!

I’d love your opinions on the following as I am falling down a Pinterest hole and need a reality check...names below are on the reasonable list!

For a boy -
Lysander
Blythe (although is this unisex as I like it for either?)
Laurence (Laurie for short)

For a girl -
Posie
Ramona
Sage
Aurelie

😂😂 the current compromise is that I will consider it for a middle name, I like the idea in theory and as much as I’d love to raise a mini Andrew Scott I’m not sure how reasonable a name it really is!

Moriarty is a bit much for a first name - Mortimer? Morgan?

Morgana, Morven and Morwenna are fabulous girls names.

Josephine nn Posie is lovely.

I like Laurence and Aurelie - both lovely names. I really like Xander but not Lysander.

Ramona - like, but also feels a bit brexity. Rowan? Rowena?
Sage - a herb. How about Fern?
Aurelie - sounds like orally to me - Aureilia is better, or Aurora ?

Agree with nearly all of this!

Prefer Xander to Lysander.

Love Ramona but does sound a bit like Remainer (not a bad thing imo!)

Instead of Aurelie how about Aurelia or Lorelie or Coralie?

Don’t like one syllable girl names, so Sage is out even before covid! Also doesn’t it mean wise man or something?

I knew a Lysander who went to a tough comprehensive - he was named after the WW2 planes. No-one batted an eyelid. Kids in multicultural cities are far less conservative than MNers.

  • Love Blythe.
  • Aurelie doesn't really work in English - Aurelia.
  • Ramona - don't like the moan in in it - Romilly or Romane/a?
  • Posy is great but maybe a middle name?

I like Posie but not Josephine. I love Juniper which a pp suggested. I like Laurence for a boy - quite classic, makes me think of a handsome scholarly chap riding a bicycle through a cobblestone town for some reason!

Sage and onions
I believe one of Sylvester Stallone’s sons is called Sage.
Moriarty is a surname that hasn’t made the transition to a first name yet.
Does DH like Maurice or Moritz
How about Leander rather than Lysander?
Horatio?

2.Lysander - lovely, classy but quite brave (I only know the Shakespeare character, never met one in RL)
3.Blythe - girls only for me as it sounds quite feminine imo and I think of Blythe Danner.
1.Laurence (Laurie for short) - nice and underused classic (and lovely nn choice)

3.Posie - too cutesy for me and more commonly spelt Posy, but fine as a nn for Josephine
2.Ramona - alright, but I'm not keen on the "moan" sound, how about Romola instead?
1.Sage - pretty and useable imo, if slightly hippy sounding
4.Aurelie- no, too close to Orally if you aren't in a French speaking country. Aurelia (especially if pronounced with the "ray" sound) is nice though.
