Hi girls! I am considering the following names:

  • Lila (pronounced like Leela, not like Layla!)
  • Lilla
  • Clarissa

What do you think?

I like Lila but would have assumed it would be pronounced as (Lyla) so don’t choose it if it’ll annoy you when people say it wrong.

ThatIsMyPotato · 21/05/2021 19:25

Clarissa is my fave

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 21/05/2021 21:15

For some reason I like both Larissa and Clara, but Clarissa looks/sounds a bit frilly to me!

Lila/Lilla will get pronounced as "Lie-lah/ Lil- lah" imo, not "Lee- lah".

ILoveShula · 21/05/2021 21:19

Lila will be Lie-la
Lilla - Lil-lah.

There are so many Lilys, Lilas, Lolas, Laylas,Lunas , Lyras etc that they seem samey.

Clarissa is the clear winner.

I agree with this
Aquamarine1029 · 21/05/2021 21:21

Lila and Lilla are going to be a lifelong pain in the arse for your child with pronunciation. I know a few people with names like this and they have always absolutely hated it.

Tianatiers · 21/05/2021 21:23

Clarissa reminds me of a 90s tv show but that reference won’t matter for anyone younger than about 40 and actually it’s quite a nice name on reflection.

Marlena1 · 21/05/2021 21:32

I like all but pronunciation could be an issue as I would have presumed lie-la. It is lovely although I love Lara (and Leah) and everyone would know how to pronounce.

SpeckledyHen · 21/05/2021 21:36

I would actually go with Leela if that’s how you want it pronounced. . No chance of mispronunciation then .

Marcipex · 21/05/2021 21:47

No one will pronounce Lila as Leela. I think if you really want that pronunciation you will have to spell it phonetically.
Clarissa is quite dated to my ears, but better than another Lily Lila Lola Layla.

Doilooklikeatourist · 21/05/2021 21:55

Clarissa
As I wouldn’t know how to say the other 2 ( and if I were the parents I wouldn’t want to be correcting the spelling and pronunciation constantly )
Just go with
Leila
Not Lilla

IslandLulu · 21/05/2021 21:55

Clarissa

Clara is even nicer

LittleDoritt · 21/05/2021 21:57

Lila (although I would say Lie-la like everyone else).
I really dislike Clarissa for no real reason.

daisypond · 21/05/2021 21:59

I like Lilla.

partyatthepalace · 21/05/2021 22:32

Clarissa

Lila/Lila is a pronunciation irritation and blends with all the Lola/Lara/Lena/Lyra/Leah/Lily names...

I prefer Cassia to either though

Tillygetsit · 21/05/2021 22:54

I really like Clarissa nn Clarrie. Not keen on the L names. There are so many about.

Thisisjaaam · 21/05/2021 22:56
  • Lila (pronounced like Leela, not like Layla!)- I read this as Lye-la. Don’t like it however it’s pronounced!
  • Lilla- really dislike
  • Clarissa- it’s ok but I don’t like it
Undersnatch · 21/05/2021 22:57

I agree with all that Lila pronunciation will be a pain. And I know a bit different, but Clarissa makes me think of silence of the lambs, sorry! Although like nn suggested Clarrie.

BackforGood · 21/05/2021 22:58

I don't like any of them, but I also read Lila as Lie-la (as in 'lie down') so I wouldn't use that if that isn't how you want it said.

ILoveShula · 21/05/2021 23:02

If you like Lila (Leela) how about Sheila?

Lilla will be confused with Lily, maybe Willa might be an alternatve.

brizzlewizzle · 21/05/2021 23:44

Larissa - an L name, but like Clarissa 😍

Sheila 😂😂
Marcipex · 22/05/2021 12:47

I’d rather Sheila than Willa.

Luisa is nice.
