Of the two - Amelie. It sounds different enough to Emily that I think most people won't misspell it. Emilia (this spelling) is lovely, but sounds identical to very popular Amelia in many accents so will be constantly misspelt imo.

If you want names similar but rarer/less well used you might like Malia, Thalia, Cecilia/Celia, Cordelia, Aurelia, Ophelia, Sylvie, Rosalie, Coralie or Elodie.

Emilia - spelled like that. But it will get muddled with Amelia.
Not Amelie - unless you’re French.

Emilia sounds about as far from pretty as you can get due to the 'mealy' noise. Eh mealy uh. Mealy is horrible! Amelie is ok but not pretty to me either I'm afraid.

Amelie. Beautiful!

AnnaSW1 · 21/05/2021 22:16

Amelie

spaceghetto · 21/05/2021 22:24

Ds has lots of Amelias in his year group and one Emilia. When he talks about her, he shouts the "em" bit because that's what she does when people say her name wrong! It makes me smile!

Amelia
Emilia looks misspelt and Amelie is cliché and boring especially in an English accent

Beeeeeeeeeeeeeep · 21/05/2021 22:28

Emelia looks so misspelt that autocorrect changed it to Emilia
Emilia is fine too

Honeyroar · 21/05/2021 22:31

I expect Emilia will become quite common after the Game of thrones actress. I’m not keen. It was always a place in Italy in my head. I love Amelie.

MadeOfStarStuff · 22/05/2021 14:55

I much prefer Amelia than either Emilia or Amelie. Emelia looks misspelled

Fishingforhappiness · 22/05/2021 22:42

Emelia - a lovely name.
In medicine Amelia is a birth defect where there is the skeletal part of a limb missing. Midwifes, and any medics/ medic friends may wince.

Kollamoolitumarellipawkyrollo · 22/05/2021 23:03

Because there are so many Amelia/Emily/Amelie/Emilia type names, they all seem a bit over used as they blend into one sort of sound.

Emelia I would think was pn Emuhleeya but I am guessing that’s wrong!

Edenember · 23/05/2021 09:35

Prefer Amelie. Emelia looks like a mash up of Amelia and Emilia.

Chilldonaldchill · 23/05/2021 11:57

Amelie is beautiful.
Emilia is lovely too but only with that spelling.

diddlediddle · 23/05/2021 12:51

Just boring I'm afraid... so many of them around! There are lots of other pretty girls names...

JemimaJoy · 24/05/2021 08:24

Another vote for neither I'm afraid! All these names blur into one and there's so many of all of them!
