Sister names to go with William

SHB2021 · 17/05/2021 09:23

We are expecting a little girl at the end of September. Surname is B and one syllable. To go with William...

So far thinking...

Jessica Rose
Lydia Rose
Ida Rose

Middle name doesn’t have to be Rose - although it does have some significance. And seems to go quite well with all of the first names!

Open to other ideas which fit with William. Also like something I can shorten. Ida was hubby’s one and only suggestion so need to keep that as an option 😂

Thanks

Lots of names "go with" William. Either Jessica or Lydia would be good.

Personally, I don't like Ida but if you do then it's not so “out there” as to raise eyebrows. I'd avoid it though if your surname makes a phrase beginning “I'd a ...” (I had a ball, I had a bell, I had a brown..)

Benedetta
Benjamina

Lydia and Jessica are both nice. Lydie and Jess.

Rose is a filler middle name - I'd go for something that isn't every other girl's middle name. Lydia Rosalind or Jessica Rosemary perhaps?

Ida is too similar in sound to 'I had a'.

My fave of your choices is Lydia - it just sounds the most classic to me, like William. But there's nothing wrong with Jessica (pretty and Shakespearean) or even Ida (I just prefer Ida pronounced the European way ("Ee - da") as "Eye -da" sounds a bit masculine to me). Rose would be a lovely classic first name though - it's so popular as a middle. Other ideas (hopefully no repeats):

Caroline
Julia
Celia
Beatrice
Laura
Sarah
Antonia
Anna
Emma
Josephine
Susannah
Marianne

Oh I have always loved Lydia. I think my DD could well have been a Lydia had DH not irrationally disliked the name. I’ve liked the name for years and never gone off it, which I usually do with names that make my list Smile

partyatthepalace · 17/05/2021 19:49

Lydia and Jessica are both great, although I am not a fan of Ida...

Other thoughts - Rosanna, Rosalind, Louisa, Frances, Francesca, Adeline, Adelaide, Adela (Ida alternatives), Miranda, Serena, Cassia, Caroline, Marianne, Emmeline, Emma, Julia, Juliet, Lucinda, Hannah, Harriet, Cecily, Cecilia, Felicity (and the currently v popular Charlotte, Beatrice, Emily, Anna)

Rose is nice but it’s a cliche middle name, so might be better as the last of 3 names or a variation like Rosemary.

Rosehassometoes · 17/05/2021 19:53

Iris was my first thought.
Like Lydia of yours. Or maybe Rose as a first name?

SHB2021 · 17/05/2021 20:31

Thanks everyone. We have a Rose already in the family so that can’t be a first name really. But am flexible over middle name options and some lovely ideas in here. Will see what hubby thinks!
