Eve with L surname

Hi all

We’ve been debating a baby name for DD 2 for ages and had finally decided on Eve.

However, I’ve just realised this reads as ‘Eve L’ as our surname begins with an L.

I’m now panicking that this reads too much like ‘Evil’! DH and others don’t see the problem, so I’m wondering if it’s just my hormonal self thinking too much!

Thoughts appreciated Grin

Yeh, you're overthinking it :)

It's lovely. If there will be a middle name then it will separate the two anyway... x

SavingsQuestions · 14/05/2021 14:35

You can't do it! Starts humming the Evil song from lego movie 2.

SavingsQuestions · 14/05/2021 14:36

At school it will be EveL though. You don't use middle names. On the register etc it will be is "Eve l" here etc...

PegPeople · 14/05/2021 14:38

Yep sorry it definitely reads as Evil. This wouldn't be such a problem with a less popular name but Eve is pretty popular so she is quite likely at some point to be referred to alongside the first initial of her surname.

Myfanwyprice · 14/05/2021 14:39

I wouldn’t do it to be honest, I didn’t realise that DD’s name + initial made a word till she was at school and one of two girls with the same name and therefore always known as name + initial.

7catsisnotenough · 14/05/2021 14:48

How about Evie? Evie L doesn't sound like evil...?

partyatthepalace · 14/05/2021 15:04

Gosh - you are right. No I wouldn’t - especially as Eve is such a common name she will be Eve L all the time.

AlbusSeverusMalfoy · 14/05/2021 15:05

I read it as EveL. But I think it's a brilliant name Grin

Palavah · 14/05/2021 15:16

Evie L would be worse!

Eve L is fine, you're overthinking

AnxiousAnnie86 · 14/05/2021 15:41

It does kiiiind of read like that but I wouldn't of noticed, I don't think! I like it though!!!

KateL31 · 14/05/2021 16:41

Thanks all! This has given me some food for thought...

It reads fine, but said out loud it does sound like Evil and if there is more than one Eve at school/a club she goes to she is going to be called Eve L.

I wouldn't use it.

Happycat1212 · 14/05/2021 17:05

I wouldn’t sorry, there are so many names you can use and I never get the middle name argument as no one uses middle names! So it will be eve L, how about Evelyn

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 14/05/2021 17:13

Unless it is Eve Lkenevel you should be fine

ThatIsMyPotato · 14/05/2021 19:34

It would be fine if you could guarantee there won't be another Eve in her class ever.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 14/05/2021 20:49

Eve as a given name isn't that popular anymore (not like Eva, Ava, Evie, Evelyn) so I think you'd be quite unlucky for her to be known as Eve L in her class/groups.

It's a lovely name, I'd probably be reluctant to give up on the name for only that reason if it's your favourite - and afterall it hasn't stopped the popularity of Evelyn (which is sometimes pronounced Eve - Lyn).

RuthW · 14/05/2021 21:04

You can't do that. Not fair on a child.

IslandLulu · 14/05/2021 22:50

People who are saying you're overthinking it have not spent time in a classroom where it's really normal for a teacher to call out 'Sophie W, can you give out the books, Sophie P, can you collect the test papers please'.

Your daughter would hate to be Eve L. Don't do it!

Edenember · 15/05/2021 13:57

I wouldn’t.

PassGo · 15/05/2021 14:37

It's a no from me too I'm afraid.

Evelina, Edie, Maeve?

HeadlessGummyBears · 15/05/2021 21:44

Eve sounds lovely. If it worries you, maybe add in a middle name to break it up a little?

Not sure how many syllables your surname is, so here are some suggestions:
Eve Celeste
Eve Dorothea
Eve Florence
Eve Gabriella
Eve Grace
Eve Harriet
Even Henrietta
Eve Jasmine
Eve Juniper
Eve Penelope
Eve Rose
Eve Tabitha
Eve Willow

DramaAlpaca · 16/05/2021 03:08

Overthinking. It's fine.

Zephyr5 · 16/05/2021 03:20

Honestly, you'll be fine. It's not noticeable at all! I once knew a girl who's surname was Power and her name is Faye. Her mum wanted to call her Faye Leah (failure) but in the class register it would be Power Faye Leah (Power Failure) - her mum changed her mind!

SavingsQuestions · 16/05/2021 06:36

But people calling you Firstname Initial (like for all rhe years of school ..) wontnuse a middle name! Noone uses middle names.

School will callnout "EveL" on a regular basis....

SwanShaped · 16/05/2021 06:45

Definite no. She would be referred to as Eve L if there happened to be two Eves in a class.
