What names do you like but you have only ever met one of before?

My sister is pregnant for the first time at 43 and wants an unusual but real name and wants some inspiration.

I named my own after only once ever hearing someone called the name.

I've never met anyone else with my DC names and never seen my son's name mentioned on here. The Scottish statistics website is fab though and I can see when the handful of others were given the name over the years.

I recently heard of Uist for a boy and I'm desperately trying to persuade my DH to consider it for the next baby!

Tahnee is Raquel Welch's daughter's name

A very old friend of my grandmother's. She was always called Rita but when she died her full name was on the funeral order of service, Anchoreeta.

I've also only met one Monty, Sinai, Eden, Troyden and Merlin.

Aphra like the playwright Aphra Behn. I always thought it was such a beautiful name for a little girl.

Loving this; baby no 2 on the way and my little girl's unusual name has been mentioned on this thread twice (once with a different spelling of Nyree by @mum2jakie and the way I spell it - Ngaire by @DappledOliveGroves) so am eagerly following for inspiration for something that would go nicely 🥰

Sioux. Although it sounds just like Sue, I have always liked the spelling.

Elvy. Spotted on a file of a 90 year old lady when I was doing a NHS filing job as a student. Loved it and always thought I’d use it for my own child.

My daughter is 27 and has a name that was unique until about 5 years ago. Her name is Esme.Our son has a very uncommon name Laurie or Laurence.

This is quite an interesting thread, it's determined I think by where you live and the circles you move in whether you've come across the names rather than the names themselves

This is just an example but to me both these names are pretty mainstream, I've worked with an Esme and know a couple of others and Laurie/Laurence are both normal to me

Are you in England?

Also Felicity has been mentioned more than once, there were several of those when I was at school

Reston. It was a man from South Africa. Might be a common name over there but I've never met another one here in the U.K.

Also the a person called Cressida, when I first heard the name many years ago I was blown away by how unusual it was to me but now Cressida Dicks the police chief is on the tv frequently it seems mainstream now.

It's a very old name, used in Chaucer's poem Troilus and Criseyde, retold by Shakespeare as Troilus and Cressida. There were a couple in my school.

On the Shakespearean theme we also had a Perdita, a Cordelia, a Nerissa, and several Jessicas, Helenas and Juliets. No Portias, Mirandas or Desdemonas that I can remember though
