Names to go with this surname?

Hello Smile

I'm expecting DC1 currently and don't yet know the sex. DH and I can't put our finger on any stand out names just yet and would love some help!

Baby's surname will be Rose, so no floral girl names, or anything that could sound like a scented candle Grin and for boys we just would like something that flows well and doesn't sound too "soft" with the surname.

All help very welcome! Smile

Murray Rose was a champion Australian swimmer back in the day. That's a strong name.

I went to school with a Rebecca Rose. Fabulous name.

I think three syllables to counterbalance the single-syllable surname would flow nicely . . .

Susannah Rose
Annabel Rose
Juliet Rose
Penelope Rose

Go for something with three syllables that is a very recognisable name, so that there's no ''confusion'' with the name.

Murray Rose would confuse me a little, I wouldn't be certain if it was Murray, Rose.

Dominic Rose
Nicholas Rose
Barnaby Rose

For boys, don't use anything that's slang for penis.
ie, William Rose, could be willy rose.

BramStoker · 02/05/2021 18:26

As Rose can be both a first name and a surname I would avoid using any names which are equally flexible or your DC will spend their life explaining 'No it's not Rose James, it's James Rose'

Caroline Rose
Lucinda Rose
Imogen Rose
Beatrice Rose
Amanda Rose

Dominic Rose
Jonathan Rose
Matthew Rose
Robert Rose

Several family members' names have been mentioned on here which is funny to read

I hadn't thought of the name confusion thing @SelkieFly, good point!

A few we like to help with our taste..

Boys

Arthur, Albi - Are these too popular?
Rowan/Robin/Remy - Are these too many Rs (or even too feminine?) with our surname?

Girls

Aurelia/Emmeline - Maybe a mouthful?
Matilda - Quite popular?

@BramStoker yep I spend my life correcting people on that issue at work, or they think it's a double-barrel first name!

Oooh Lucinda, Penelope, Annabel and Lydia are going to be touted to DH this evening!

ShoppingPrecinctPrincess · 02/05/2021 18:32

Rowan Rose is a bit tongue-twistery and a bit like 'no one knows'

turnthepage · 02/05/2021 18:33

@ShoppingPrecinctPrincess yeah that's what we thought, I think it's the "ro ro" sound that makes it a bit much! I should've kept my maiden name, it was much plainer Grin

OP posts:
SelkieFly · 02/05/2021 18:33

What's the pattern of your surname your surname? Would it sound a bit abrupt paired with Rose?
If you were to add in your surname that could give you more leeway?

Saltyslug · 02/05/2021 18:36

Got to be Axel rose for a boy

SelkieFly · 02/05/2021 18:36

Rowan Rose doesn't work because of the ro ro
but Robbie Rose has a certain alliteration to it that I really like!

turnthepage · 02/05/2021 18:36

My maiden surname is a fairly plain, 2 syllable name that we plan on using as a middle name rather than a double-barrel surname, so we still want (first name) Rose which he/she will generally go by to flow well Smile
