Help with boys names

We have a long list of girls names that we really like and I’m sure we’ll be able to pick a gorgeous name from but we’re both stumped with boys, none of them seem special enough and really boring compared to our girl’s list.

So far we have:

Nathaniel (Nate)- I love but DP isn’t keen, he likes Nathan but I’m not keen!
Gabriel (Gabe)- I’m a little bit worried about the potential for ‘gay’ name calling.
Adam - bit boring
Issac (Zac) - I think it’s too popular
Ethan - bit too popular plus I’m from London where all my family (and probably me!) will pronounce it with an F.
Cameron- I’m not that keen and really dislike the David Cameron connection
Rory - blergh

Middle name will be Jasper and is non-negotiable, surname is a very short animal name that ends with an X (🦊) so we can’t have anything too short or with an X sound- pease help!

Gabriel’s lovely.
Like the suggestions of Daniel and Benjamin above as well.
What about Toby?

Nathaniel or Gabriel. I don't think Isaac 'goes' with your surname.

chaosrabbitland · 27/04/2021 22:25

i agree with the first person who replied , i really like jasper as the first name , its so different and lovely

whitershadeofpale · 27/04/2021 22:27

There’s a Daniel in the family and too many Benjamin’s around here. Sorry to be such a pain- boy’s names are hard!

Well I love Nathaniel and Rory -
Quite like Gabriel
Of those I would go for Nathaniel because least popular - surely your DP could agree to that - Nathan is just a short form so if your son ends up liking it he can opt for it.

Or... Lucas, Jonas, Reuben, Jerome, Caleb, Ronan, Kester, Nicholas (Nico), Alistair, Kester or Christopher (Kit), Rufus, Aidan, Jethro, Jesse, Josiah, Dominic, Cormac, Sebastian (Bash), Milo/Miles.

Sebastian Jasper Fox

Since you can’t use Rueben, what about Rupert? I don’t think Gabriel would be teased as it doesn’t have “gay” in it. Gaylord is one to avoid! Your partner’s choices aren’t bad with the exception of Kevin. Liam is white hot in the US haha

DotDotDotDotDot · 27/04/2021 23:40

I love Nathaniel from your list, so much better than Nathan, try and convince your partner 😄
Maybe Elias or Samuel? Gabriel is a good solid name too.

whitershadeofpale · 27/04/2021 23:41

I’m trying @DotDotDotDotDot 😂

I don’t suppose any are bad @annaboo2 I just think we have slightly different tastes. We’re from different parts of the U.K. and there’s definitely differences. Names I think of as quite normal he thinks as pretentious and names he thinks as normal I see as a touch chavvy. Neither is right or wrong we just have to meet in the middle somehow.

There’s also names that I think of as pretty standard but he sees them as belonging to a different culture or ethnic group (Nathaniel, Luca, Eli etc.) and thinks we’d be culturally appropriating.

@whitershadeofpale just seems to odd to even consider a name that you yourself would describe as “bleurgh”

Chilldonaldchill · 28/04/2021 08:36

Gabriel is fab. I know lots (there are 3 in my ds's year at school - he's 16) and several in younger years. I honestly don't think there's a lot of risk of teasing. It's far and away my favourite name on your list though I do like Nathaniel (but not Nathan).

jellyfishinatent · 28/04/2021 08:48

Caleb Jasper Fox

I have a Gabriel, he has never been teased with gay at all!! I think Gabriel Jasper is lovely.

whitershadeofpale · 28/04/2021 09:18

You’re all reassuring me a lot re:Gabriel. I hadn’t thought of the teasing aspect myself, but it came up a few times in past threads on the name. I’m glad it’s never been an issue for anyone,

Amdone123 · 28/04/2021 10:06

@whitershadeofpale, that's good. It is a good name.
Also, kids get teased for anything, not the issues we anticipate at all. The best thing is to teach your child 1) not to react 2) if it were a gay slur, what's wrong with being gay ?!
I realise that is quite simplistic ( and bullying isn't), but I hope you get my drift !
