Why are boys names so hard?!

Due in June and we are REEEEEALLY struggling with boys names?!

We're in Scotland, both of Scottish heritage, surname begins McN. (We're not particularly set on a Scottish name, but does obviously need to not sound weird with surname.)

Between our siblings, their children and the children of close friends, we have had to rule out Adam, Alex, Rory, Grant, Christopher, Lachlan, Craig, Euan, Steven, and Cameron... !! I love most of these, so feel like there are no names I like left 😂🙈

I quite like Owen and Rhys, though neither of us have ever even set foot in Wales... and also maybe Emmett? But not sure any of those are the one.

Literally any suggestions at this point would be helpful!

I feel ya! I don't have many boys names I like either but did have Emmett on the list but it's a no from DH. So no real suggestions just solidarity.

Bluebutterfly36 · 25/04/2021 22:36

I thought that about boys names and then ended up having 4 boys! They each have 2 middle names, so it did get easier as the years went by! How about Hamish?

sarah13xx · 25/04/2021 22:41

I’m Scotland too and have a Mc surname! Love Rory and Euan 🙈 that’s a shame you can’t use them.
Callum?
Elliot?
Kit?
Fergus?

I really struggled with boys names, and I don't have any suggestions, but when DS was born and he was a DS and not a DD we looked at our long list of boys names and removed the ones that didn't feel right. We were then left with 3 that we both still liked. We waited a night and thought them over individually and the next morning both said we liked the same option more than the others. And that's what he's called.

And the name we chose was never at the top of our list, it was always sort of in the middle, but for some reason it just seemed to fit and now I can't imagine him being called anything else. So maybe once he's born your DS will just sort of tell you his own name?

@MagicMatilda

You can never name your baby Ned in Scotland Grin

Love Emmett. Owen is not my personal taste but it’s a good strong name which works on a child and a man. I’ve always loved Hamish and Alasdair. Jory? Jago? - Cornish, but I feel they’d work well with Scottish surname.

ghislaine · 26/04/2021 09:34

How about Hector? Not strictly Scottish but it seems popular there.

Keir
Fraser
Craig
Donald
Archibald

Aliceandthemarchhare · 26/04/2021 09:36

I love Hamish and Angus as Scottish boys names Smile

MindyStClaire · 26/04/2021 09:37

Yes we really struggled with boys names. We're Irish with a McM name, our DDs would've been Joseph (Joe) and Benjamin (Ben).

I also like Lorcan, Peter, Jack, James, Conor. I like Cormac but not with our Mc surname.

Aliceandthemarchhare · 26/04/2021 09:38

You have excellent taste mindy Wink

HSX8 · 26/04/2021 18:25

Fraser is lovely
