It's not the same as Sarah is it? Or can it be?

P.s I think both Sarah and Sara are beautiful.

I can be pronounced as either

Tibtab · 16/04/2021 11:12

Sorry - *It

ShortRoundSupermodel · 16/04/2021 11:13

If you prefer the Sarah sound as I do would you opt for Sara?

I would say mostly Sara I'd like Zara, etc, but I know two women my age who spell their names Sara and call themselves Sarah.

TheVamoosh · 16/04/2021 11:14

I know a Sarah who pronounces it Zara..

Stilltalkstotrees · 16/04/2021 11:14

Is*

I would instinctively pronounce Sara to rhyme with Tara unless corrected by the person or informed in advance.
If you want Sarah, use Sarah.

ShortRoundSupermodel · 16/04/2021 11:17

Thanks everyone.

I prefer Sarah but there's something pretty about the Sara pronunciation but I've always considered Sara to rhyme with Tara until I met a Sara-Sarah and.... I'll stop there I've confused myself

Can be either but I would choose Sarah if I wanted that pronunciation, as the other would probably cause confusion.

ShortRoundSupermodel · 16/04/2021 11:18

Sara spelling!! Not pronunciation although that too Confused

@TheVamoosh

I know a Sarah who pronounces it Zara..
Is she German or does she have German heritage? 'Zara' is how the name Sarah is pronounced in German.

I think the vast majority of the time Sara's in the UK are pronounced Sahr -ah to rhyme with Tara, Cara, Lara etc. If you want the other pronunciation I'd stick with Sarah OP.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 16/04/2021 13:59

Unless you are not in Uk? It will obviously vary in other countries - I think for example Sara may be more often pronounced like Sarah in the US (judging by the couple that I've met, athough this could be anecdotal!)

Plumedenom · 16/04/2021 13:59

From my own experience with dd's name, if you want the pronunciation to be right first time I would opt for Sarah. They are both lovely names I think.

Lightningrain · 16/04/2021 14:02

I know two Sara’s and they both pronounce it differently. Sarah is the more common spelling for that pronunciation but I think both are acceptable.

It threw me when I met an American Tara who pronounced her name to rhyme with Sarah.

Trinpy · 16/04/2021 14:09

I went to school with a Sara, pronounced Sarah, who was constantly getting called Sara to rhyme with Tara.

As an adult I have a friend called Sara, pronounced Sarah, who started life with her name pronounced to rhyme with Tara but her parents had to give up and change the pronunciation as everyone just called her Sarah. She also gets her name misspelled by people as Sarah quite a lot which drives her up the wall!

Maybe just call your baby Sarah OP Grin.

SleepingStandingUp · 16/04/2021 14:12

If you want Sar-a use Sara. If you want Sair-a use Sarah.

partyatthepalace · 18/04/2021 16:10

I think if you want it pronounced Sarah spell it like that

Yes Sara rhymes with Zara

Dundusting · 18/04/2021 16:14

Dd is Sarah. Obviously I think it's a beautiful name. She is sometimes asked if it's spelt with an H. But all the Saras I've even known have pronounced it like Tara.
