The final 4: Jack, Alfred, Harry or Hugo?

I'm nearly 37 weeks pregnant and we've finally nailed it down to 4 names:

  • Jack
  • Alfred (husband likes Alfie)
  • Hugo (we won't be naming him Hugh)
  • Harry (I prefer Henry but no from husband)

I'm German so the names have to work in both languages. Big bro is Louis, pronounced Louie.

What are your thoughts mumsnet? X

You’ve chosen 2 top 10 names and 2 top 50. What is there to choose? All very popular, safe bets.

Personally I’d look at the scan photo again and see what your baby looks most like to you. I could tell what mine would be like and his name matches him.

I love them all! Louis and Hugo are cute together.
But I'm also a fan of Jack.
Louis and Alfie are a bit too much 'ee'?
Same with Harry??

So I'd go Hugo I think. Congrats, not long now!!

LadyGAgain · 15/04/2021 06:35

Hugo.

pilates · 15/04/2021 06:36

Definitely Jack

Jack Alfred sounds very nice

Peachbubble · 15/04/2021 06:48

I'd choose Jack

AnyaMoondial · 15/04/2021 07:00

I really love Jack.

And Harry is pretty great too!

cheesebubble · 15/04/2021 07:05

@Thewinterofdiscontent There is still 4 names even if those were the top 4, we have to choose given that you asked what there is to choose.

Picture of my 2 boys in the womb attached, looking pretty similar in my opinion but looking at that picture, I don't feel like I know what to name him, it might come to me once he's arrived.

Harry

Rainbowqueeen · 15/04/2021 07:09

Jack as long as your last name is more than one syllable

ArtemisiaGentle · 15/04/2021 07:10

Alfred, after the great English King.

LadyWithLapdog · 15/04/2021 07:12

Harry

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 15/04/2021 07:13

Nothing wrong with a safe bet ! No need to come up with something weird for the sake of it . My son has one of those names and he really suits it . All great names for boys and grown up men too

cheesebubble · 15/04/2021 07:20

@Dontforgetyourbrolly thanks for saying that! Thanks

I like Harry. I think it goes well with Louie.

Lotsachocolateplease · 15/04/2021 07:25

Jack or Hugo.
Lovely choices!

Aprilshowersandhail · 15/04/2021 07:31

Harry and Louis are 2 princes right now. Risky having Louis and Hughie if Hugo was amended!
Louis and Jack is my choice.

Blackcountrychik · 15/04/2021 07:32

I have a teenager called Jack and I still love his name ! Considering it was the number 1 boys name for ages I have only ever met a handful . It’s a name that suits both a boy and a man .
On this basis I say Jack .

pilates · 15/04/2021 07:34

Yes agree nothing wrong with a safe solid name.

Spied · 15/04/2021 07:35

Jack

thethoughtfox · 15/04/2021 07:49

Jack and Harry : classes but hugely common. Alfie also hugely common in this wave of old-fashioned names being revived. It's very ' Towie'
( also a very popular dog's name. Hugo only works if you are 'posh' I'd go with Harry.

Violetlavenders · 15/04/2021 08:02

Alfred works best in German!

Hugo sounds nice in German but the English pronunciation is not so nice (Heeeeooo--go). I'm not keen.

I also prefer Henry to Harry.

Lau52 · 15/04/2021 08:03

Jack or Harry. My 2 are called Jack and Harry, so can’t choose one as love them both

Thewinterofdiscontent · 15/04/2021 08:04

cheesebubble He’s adorable!

I just meant that all those names represent the same thing. Solid, old school but currently very popular, MC British boys names. I’m not sure anyone could have a strong opinion one way or another between them?

I think Hugo and Louis go well although there is a possibility of them being called Hughie and Louis which you may or may not like.
I like Jack as my grandad and numerous uncles were Jacks (and Alfreds).
Alfred can be called Alfie, Fred or Al if you are still undecided when he arrives.

Twilightstarbright · 15/04/2021 08:18

Hugo goes nicely with Louis and works in both English and German.

proopher · 15/04/2021 08:23

I love Hugo but OH vetoed it.

OH is Henry but known as Harry. He's only known as Henry at work sometimes and on paperwork. Could that work?
