Hey!
I really need help with picking a baby girl name! There are a few that we like so far:

Ailsa
Aila (ay-la)
Hattie
Bonnie

We live in Scotland so would quite like a Scottish name but doesn't matter if it's not. What are peoples opinions on these names??

don't like them.
first two no idea how to say.
second two sound like dog's names.

alexdgr8 · 05/04/2021 16:18

there are many fine Scottish names.
what about Fiona, Margaret, Moira, Kathleen, Elizabeth, Susannah, Harriet, Clementine, Millicent, Esther, Judith, Roberta, Isabelle, Antonia.

sarah13xx · 05/04/2021 16:22

Aila is my favourite (I live in Scotland too - trying to find a Scottish boy’s name just now). I know Isla spelt the other way is very popular just now though but it is lovely

PW1992 · 05/04/2021 16:30

@alexdgr8 thanks for the suggestions! Although not really my cup of tea, I find all of the names quite old

I absolutely love the name Hattie

Divineswirls · 05/04/2021 16:32

Hattie short for Harriet is nice.

amallierory · 05/04/2021 16:36

Fraser and Ailsa sound quite similar. No idea how to pronounce Aila. Is it pronounced to rhyme with Taylor? If so I'd spell it Ayla. Bonnie is horribly twee.

So I'd go with Hattie.

Oh wow, that’s going to be his middle name! Loads of people on my partners side have it as their middle name

PandaFluff · 05/04/2021 16:42

Ismellphantoms · 05/04/2021 17:41

I love the name Ailsa.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 05/04/2021 18:13

While I prefer the lovely Scottish Vaila to Aila and Ailsa personally, out of the two I like Ailsa better. I dislike Bonnie and Hattie as they sound very nicknamey to me, sorry (I do like Hattie as a nn for Harriet/Henrietta though).

Morven?
Lorna?
Isobel?
Elspeth?

EmbarrassingMama · 06/04/2021 12:09

I used to have a chicken called Ailsa.

PeskyRooks · 06/04/2021 12:15

I used to have a guinea pig called Hattie Grin

emmathedilemma · 06/04/2021 12:26

Of you list I like Ailsa the most. Aila is ok (I don't know how people can't pronounce it?!?).
Hattie strikes me as a very English name (is it Scottish?), and should probably be a nn for Harriet.
I don't like Bonnie at all, it's too cutesy.
Fraser & Eilidh
Fraser & Isla (too common?)
Fraser & Morag (Maggie as nn?)
Fraser & Mairi
Fraser & Mirren
I really like Flora and Freya but probably not with Fraser!

PW1992 · 06/04/2021 13:32

@emmathedilemma thanks for the reply! Dont think Hattie is Scottish I just quite liked the name lol I love Eilidh, although my neice is called Ally do you think it's too similar?

@EmbarrassingMama what a well named chicken!!

OP posts:
PW1992 · 06/04/2021 13:33

@PeskyRooks probably does sound like a bit of an animal name lol

emmathedilemma · 06/04/2021 13:42

I don't think Eilidh is too like Ally. Is she just called Ally or is it a nn for something?

Edenember · 06/04/2021 15:36

Ishbel, Esme, Iona, Eila

Nia18 · 06/04/2021 16:57

I love the name Hattie! I have a daughter called Lottie so it would be too similar, but if that wasn't the case I'd be naming my daughter due in May Hattie.

Bonnie is a lovely name too.

Theyre all lovely, but Hattie and Bonnie are my favourite.

KirstenBlest · 07/04/2021 08:47

Ailsa - ok, a bit too similar to Isla and Elsa
Aila (ay-la) - dislike
Hattie - like a lot if short for Harriet
Bonnie - not sure, a bit too nicknamey

daisypond · 07/04/2021 08:53

Alisa is the only one I like. The others are too bland or nicknamey.

daisypond · 07/04/2021 08:53

Ailsa that should say.
