Emilia Elle or rose

Hi we can’t decide on a middle name for
Emilia. We both like rose but it has no meaning. Elle would be naming her after me and her sister. But not sure Emilia Elle goes? Surname begin with b and has one syllable. Thanks

I love middle names having family links, so if there are just the 3 females in your family (no DD3 to feel left out?), then I say use Elle after her mum and sister. Also Rose is such a popular middle name that there will be a lot of Emilia Rose's about, so why not have something less commonplace for your DD?

Emilia Elle doesn't flow quite as well as Emilia Rose, but it doesn't sound bad (plus middle names aren't used on a daily basis so all that really matters is how the first name sounds with the surname.).

MrsTerryPratchett · 03/04/2021 01:33

Elle doesn't flow and Rose is blah and overused.

Sorry.

paperandfireworks · 03/04/2021 01:40

Elle is too similar to Emilia to work as a middle name

sorryiasked · 03/04/2021 01:43

I prefer emilia rose.
Or perhaps emilia eleanor?

partyatthepalace · 03/04/2021 01:54

Rose is very overused and Elle doesn’t go / is there another family name?

doughnutcraver · 03/04/2021 02:05

Why not two middle names Emilia Rose Ella?

zigaziga · 03/04/2021 08:02

Use Elle

It doesn’t flow but when do you ever say the full name out loud? Just at christenings and weddings really?

My oldest is aware what his middle name is but that’s as far as it goes, I don’t ever call him First Name Middle Name and I don’t anyone that does use their child’s middle name as part of daily life. For my toddler, I’m not sure I’ve said her middle name out loud even once since we told people her name.

zigaziga · 03/04/2021 08:06

I also don’t really see the point of using Rose at all. I’m not someone who generally has a problem with popular names (Top 10 for instance) but Rose as a middle name just goes so far beyond that... it’s just become this filler middle name that half of girls have.
Every single Isla I know of for instance, is Isla Rose.
Use something (Elle) that has some meaning. The handful of times you will use the full name are really not worth worrying about how well it goes.

iluvpickles · 03/04/2021 10:19

I have an Emilia, I just love her name! You'll get some really interesting spellings though 😂

I think Elle doesn't really go with it, Rose goes better. If you aren't using the names at the same time though go with the one you want.

VenusClapTrap · 03/04/2021 13:24

Emilia Elle is fine. It has meaning, which is the point of middle names I think. They are barely used anyway.

KirstenBlest · 03/04/2021 13:45

Emilia Elle will be said as Emilia Relle.

Rose goes better but it just a filler middle name. Every other Emilia will be Emilia Rose (or Grace or May)

NotATomato · 03/04/2021 15:54

Elle doesn’t go at all, it doesn’t even feel like a proper name. Rose is massively overused.

PandaFluff · 03/04/2021 19:22

Who's sister? Your OH's or your other daughter? I'm not sure about naming a child after their sibling. Elle doesn't really flow but as PP said it's very rare that all names get used at once.

I'd only use Rose if you absolutely love it or it's after someone. It's a lovely name but it is so often used now it's always nice when there's not a Rose!

PandaFluff · 03/04/2021 19:23

Do you like Jasmine? Or any other flowers? Emilia Jasmine B sounds nice.

Chilldonaldchill · 03/04/2021 22:18

Emilia Elle is better than Emilia Rose, just because almost every Emilia will be Emilia Rose (because so many girls have Rose as their filler MN).
Emilia Elle doesn't flow beautifully but it doesn't matter. She'll be Emilia B for almost everything in her life and when she needs to use her full name Emilia Elle B sounds fine because the emphasis is then on the surname.
But another option would be to use Emilia Belle as a nod to Elle? Or Emilia Ellen?

ScoutLincoln · 10/04/2021 17:28

I don't like Emilia Rose, and Emilia Elle doesn't sound well

Ellmau · 10/04/2021 18:48

No meaning? Rose is a beautiful flower.

I don't think Emilia Elle goes at all well together.

LouNatics · 10/04/2021 18:53

Why not use a name with -Elle in it.

Emilia Belle
Emilia Janelle
Emilia Gabrielle
Emilia Danielle
Emilia Joelle
Emilia Giselle

AlwaysLatte · 10/04/2021 18:54

Amelia Elle definitely doesn't flow so Rose fits better but what about making up a new name like Amelle Rose?

HelebethH · 10/04/2021 19:06

Do you have a middle name that could be used or a variant of it?

toastofthetown · 10/04/2021 19:38

Meaningful/family middle name vs perfect flow is very personal. In years to come when explaining to Emilia why you chose her name, would you prefer to say that you chose the middle name Rose because it sounds beautiful to you, or Elle because of the family meaning. There isn't a right or wrong answer. Personally I think Emilia Elle sounds fine, Rose flows better but Elle doesn't sound bad by any means.

stormelf · 11/04/2021 09:13

Emilia Elle doesn't completely flow by themselves but when you add a surname to it I think that's fine.

E.g
Emilia Elle Jacobson
Emilia Elle Stewart
Emilia Elle Jones
Emilia Elle Renault

As a full name, and that's basically only time middle names are mentioned, I think it sounds lovely. If the name has meaning to you then I would go with that

midsomermurderess · 11/04/2021 09:36

If Elle has meaning for you, use it. Mostly no one knows what a person's middle name is, and probably don't care either, certainly in to adult life. It's not used day-to-day.

JaneExotic · 11/04/2021 09:50

I think Emilia Elle is lovely. Unless your surname is BELL.

EugeniaGrace · 11/04/2021 10:59

Again it might depend on the particular last name.

Emilia Elle Bowes could be a problem.

Emilia Elle Birch is nice.
