I like it 👍🏼

ladygindiva · 02/04/2021 19:23

It's a yes from me. Lovely.

PatMustardsBigTool · 02/04/2021 19:23

I have taught 2 Safiyas, both absolutely beautiful, clever, funny and sweet girls so for me the name has lovely connotations. Go for it.

MeadowHay · 02/04/2021 19:28

A close relative has this name. We have seen quite a few babies/toddlers locally with the same name out and about. They always get complimented on the name, it is Arabic for 'pure'. It's mostly commonly used by Muslim families. (Perhaps you are Muslim sorry if you knew that already Grin )

Notavegan · 02/04/2021 19:29

I like it..does remind me of Safi from Ab Fab, but I'm old

Elambert83 · 02/04/2021 19:32

I am not Muslim but I think it sounds pretty. I would pair it with Karen, my late mother's name therefore Safiya Karen x

I love it, it's the name of my favourite youtuber so has a good association for me as she seems lovely!

Flittingaboutagain · 02/04/2021 19:43

I know a Saphia and a Safia too and think it's lovely.

chilliplant634 · 02/04/2021 19:45

I think it's a lovely name, with nice meaning. It is a muslim name of arabic origin. As long as you are aware of this and it doesn't bother you then go for it!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 02/04/2021 19:53

I think people would assume she was Muslim or of Arabic/Middle Eastern descent (as I've personally never heard of/met any Safiya's who weren't) but if you don't mind that, I think it's a pretty name.

partyatthepalace · 02/04/2021 19:58

It’s lovely but I think it’s slightly odd if you aren’t of Muslim/Arabic descent or have some connection to that part of the world - so I would personally use a similar name like Sophia, Serena, Seraphina etc

daisypond · 02/04/2021 19:59

It’s nice. I know one (Muslim). It might get misheard for Sophia at times.

MrsTerryPratchett · 02/04/2021 20:00

It's lovely.

Elambert83 · 02/04/2021 20:26

Partyatthepalace

I am interested to know why you feel that it would be slightly odd to use if not arabic, can you elaborate?

Beautiful name but having known one it often gets mispronounced as sufiya which really annoyed the person I know.

Cakepop9 · 02/04/2021 20:47

Safiya is lovely but Karen doesn’t seem to go with it at all, it’s also dropping in popularity and has quite negative connotations now. Maybe Kara as a tribute instead?

AnnaSW1 · 02/04/2021 21:01

I'd assume you were Muslim using that name. I always say if you love it then use it.

RachelRavenRoth · 02/04/2021 21:05

I went to uni with a safiya. Lovely name.

Zarinea · 02/04/2021 21:21

Love it. Was on our shortlist.

We're a Muslim family, and if someone without that connection used it I'd be surprised but not find it weird.

Susie477 · 02/04/2021 21:23

👍🏽

Time2b33 · 02/04/2021 21:30

Absolute fun beautiful. I know a 3 year old with this name. Also know a Safina which is lovely!

TatianaBis · 02/04/2021 21:44

It's a bit odd if you're not Muslim as everyone will assume DD is.

Why not Sophia?

Elambert83 · 02/04/2021 21:48

I wouldn't have Sophia as I have 2 nieces called Sophie.
I might be being stupid but I don't get what the problem is with using other culture names. I will bear it in mind but surely the objections have to be backed up with more than that...

MeadowHay · 02/04/2021 21:53

I'm from a Muslim background and no one I know would be bothered about you using a typically Muslim name. Like others have said I would assume a Safiya was from a Muslim background but I wouldnt think too much of it either way. I know at least one who isn't from a Muslim family now anyway as the name becomes more popular.

chilliplant634 · 02/04/2021 22:03

OP I don't think there is anything "wrong" with using it at all if you like it.
