Boys name help!

Me again ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ˜‚ please help (again). Weโ€™ve been going round in circles with this list of names:

Harris - always been our favourite but itโ€™s suddenly at number 6 in Scotland when we go to have a baby! Was really hoping for something less popular
Kit - I love this name, my partner likes it but might take a bit more convincing. Iโ€™m a teacher and thereโ€™s a Kit at my school. Today another adult heard his name for the first time and said โ€˜Kit? I thought that was a girls nameโ€™. I was 99% convinced this was the name but Iโ€™m now doubting it too!
Jenson - this is almost at number 200 on the Scottish list for 2020 (only 23 born last year) but this week I heard there is a baby in our town called it ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ
Fergus - itโ€™s at number 104. My partner loves this name. I like it and think it would depend what he looked like whether heโ€™d suit it.

Thoughts or any other suggestions? Really just want to settle on something now!

@PandaFluff

Have you chosen a middle name yet?
No it might be Kelvin or could be Harris if we didnโ€™t use Harris as a first name. Just depends what the first name is I think

I like all the names in your post.

My only advice to you is to choose a name you love. Honestly, it really won't matter if it's popular - I speak from experience here. I think you'll regret not choosing a name you really love. And don't listen to anyone else's opinion on your chosen name, go with your gut.

I really like Kit, we gave our DS3 a name that could have this as a NN but unfortunately he doesn't like it and has always insisted on the full version of his name Sad

Oh no, maybe heโ€™ll change his mind when heโ€™s older. I think if we went for it weโ€™d maybe just put Kit on the birth certificate

Kit and Harris are lovely.
Also like Hamish, Alasdair and Hector.

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 01/04/2021 22:52

Fergus

Bruce2 · 01/04/2021 23:39

Kit, but I only like it as a nn. I'd put Kester or Christopher on birth certificate but that's just a personal opinion.

Like Fergus too

Harris is very popular, I must know at least 5 under the age of 10 in Glasgow alone.
It's lovely but I prefer something not so popular.

Gregor?

Think I agree about the Harris thing. I didnโ€™t know it was popular because there had only ever been one at my school but suddenly in the last year I know at least two other people who have called their babies Harris and I was out a walk the other day and a wee boy about 3 had โ€˜Harrisโ€™ on the front of his hat so I thought itโ€™s clearly very common in under 5s just now ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ I wish I liked the full name options for Kit more. I considered Killian or something, although I know that would be less associated with Kit

Kit is totally a boyโ€™s name! Gosh donโ€™t let one idiot comment put you off.

Iโ€™d choose that, itโ€™s lovely. Really donโ€™t like Harris, I know itโ€™s traditional but the reason itโ€™s popular right now is because it veers VERY close to the trend for surname names in boys which I hate - so harsh (Riley, Jackson, Harrison etc). Yuk.

Not Fergus, but love Fraser.

I know, just wish I hadnโ€™t heard it ๐Ÿ™ˆ now when I say at work thatโ€™s my babyโ€™s name Iโ€™m going to know what they think but oh well ๐Ÿคฃ Yeah the popularity thing is really putting me off Harris, just have always loved it and if we had a girl next it would go well with the name weโ€™ve always had picked out for her but Iโ€™m sure Kit would go just as well

I know what you mean OP. I overheard someone say the name I had picked was very stuck up (not to me and they had no idea I was pregnant). It put me right off as I couldn't get the comment out my head. I had a girl though so it wasn't a problem in the end.

daisypond · 02/04/2021 12:05

Did the person who thought Kit was a girlโ€™s name mishear it as Kate?
I like Harris and Fergus best of your names.

Cleverpolly3 · 02/04/2021 12:08

Iโ€™ve got a seven year old Kit and only met one more since I had him. I think it is getting more popular now but I think seven years ago it was perhaps a bit less popular!
His name is Kit not Christopher though.
He loves his name so thatโ€™s good!

Glad itโ€™s not just me ๐Ÿ˜‚ people will have an opinion one way or another whatever I call him I suppose and that person could be the only one who thinks itโ€™s a girls name ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ Hard to avoid though when people are actively bringing up names in conversation and saying things about them.. I just had to act casual like I somehow thought it was maybe a girls name too in case they were suspicious ๐Ÿคฃ inside secretly gutted
