Boys name to go with middle name John

Smushty14 · 27/03/2021 08:40

We are currently pregnant with our first and my partners family tradition is to have the middle name John for any boys.

I don't have a problem with this but trying to find a name we both agree on is a struggle!

My partner like James John but I don't think it goes at all! It just doesn't roll off the tongue.

Does anyone have any suggestions that work with the middle name John?

Also I agree James John doesn't flow very smoothly, what about Joseph John ?

skeggycaggy · 27/03/2021 08:52

Almost anything really!

James is okay, what other names do you like?

Literally hundreds of names - but no not James John (unless you stuck something in between)

BramStoker · 27/03/2021 09:23

Most names go well with John as a middle name although I would avoid anything too 'modern' or 'trendy', I think it sounds better with classic names

Patrick John
Philip John
Nicholas John
Arthur John
Benjamin John
Lawrence John
Adam John
Isaac John
Christopher John

I think looking at everyone's suggestions the key is to maybe look at names with 2 or 3 syllables. I think that's why James doesn't work too well. Loads of names sound good with John. I like Daniel John

yikesanotherbooboo · 27/03/2021 09:32

Almost any name goes with John and as it is a name with special meaning I don't think that you need to worry too much about matching or flow.
My only personal caveat would be names starting with J if you don't want them for ever to be JJ. A bit like PJ it is almost a name in its own right.

yikesanotherbooboo · 27/03/2021 09:33

I would also avoid 'B' names for obvious reasons.

BramStoker · 27/03/2021 09:37

@yikesanotherbooboo

My DH has BJ initials (as did my FIL)
It's not ideal I agree and does occasionally raise a chuckle Wink but it's not something that causes him any stress or upset

Smushty14 · 27/03/2021 10:18

@Esther95 unfortunately my nephew is Joseph John!

@toolazytothinkofausername 🤣

@BramStoker I'm personally not a fan of modern names, much prefer the original!

@yikesanotherbooboo 🤣 I don't know what you mean haha!

As a PP has already said, any name beginning with J and you'll get JJ as a nickname (whether you like it or not!) which is awful!! And James is too short to go with John. Anything with 2 or more syllables though 🤷‍♀️. Alexander or Sebastian sound nice with it.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 27/03/2021 11:22

Henry John
Steven John
Matthew John
Leo John
Alexander John

TartanCurtains · 27/03/2021 11:29

The majority of males I know over 40 have either John, James or David as a middle name. With almost any name you can think of.

They're like "denim" middle names. They go with everything and anything!

PandaFluff · 27/03/2021 11:35

Anything with a J at the start will lead to JJ nickname. Same with A for some reason it often leads to AJ.

springlike · 27/03/2021 12:56

I have a Joseph John, JJ when he was little.
