We thought we loved Morris, but then realised he could easily end up with the same nn as older ds.
Our list now is
Sylvester - but no good nn is a problem for dp, I don't care about that
Eugene - love this

So - Sylvester vs Eugene

Which do you prefer and why?

Being honest. I don't like either of them.

Sorry Op.

Cinderellashoes · 26/03/2021 09:20

What’s the older brother called?

ClaraBean · 26/03/2021 09:21

@Cinderellashoes he's called Amos. He's nearly 14 so they won't be called in from the garden together or anything, but he gets called Moss or Mossy reasonably often, and Morris could easily become a Moss too!!

Eugene, I like Gene as a NN.

TurnStone · 26/03/2021 09:23

Eugene. Gene Kelly, Gene Hackman, Gene Wilder 😍

Cinderellashoes · 26/03/2021 09:24

I think Eugene goes better with Amos, also Eugene Fitzherbert is what it reminds me of which is nice Smile

Also not keen on either, although Eugene out of the two. Sylvester will always be a cat.

JemimaTiggywinkle · 26/03/2021 09:45

What about Harris? Similar to Morris

partyatthepalace · 26/03/2021 10:07

Love Amos

Not mad keen on these two - but Sylvester is the one I prefer.

Pammy39 · 26/03/2021 10:57

I think Morris is great name

BellaVida · 26/03/2021 11:10

Amos is lovely, but I’m not keen on Eugene or Sylvester. I came up with a few other ideas:
Errol
Seth
Edgar
Gideon
Ezra
Clark
Víctor
Fraser

Standrewsschool · 26/03/2021 11:15

Don’t like Eugene, sorry. Don’t really think Slyvester goes with Amos.

Alternatives?
Gideon
Nathaniel
Stephen
Otis

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 26/03/2021 11:40

Amos is nice, but I agree with pp that Eugene and Sylvester don't really "fit" with his brothers name (to be honest they sound a bit geeky/hipster to me, where as Amos is more a sturdy uncommon biblical).

Lewis or Heath instead of Morris? Silas or Cyrus instead of SyIvester? Elias or Ezra instead of Eugene? I also like pp suggestions of Clark, Nathaniel and Seth.

HuntingoftheSnark · 26/03/2021 11:50

Amos is such an excellent name. How about Gideon or Isaac?

Violetlavenders · 26/03/2021 18:04

Amos and Eugene!

Both classic underused and both two syllables.

TatianaBis · 26/03/2021 18:25

I don't think they are hard I think you're just choosing weird ones.

Amos and Gabriel
Amos and Jude
Amos and Jacob
Amos and Zacchary
Amos and Malachi
Amos and Josiah

Thanks all.
Dp really struggles with associations, which is annoying. Not just people we know but films, tv and songs. So he vetoes a lot.
From the suggestions given I do rather like Clark so I'll see what he says to that (although I think Immediately of the National Lampoon films, but I don't mind that!)
I also think I now definitely love Eugene more than Sylvester.
