I love the name Spencer! I wanted to choose it for my second child but my husband wasn’t having any of it. This time around he’s set on it!
What do you all think of the name?

I really dislike it. It's not a particularly nice surname to start with, so not an attractive first name to me.

I like Harrison very much though.

ImmortalBalloons · 26/03/2021 00:38

It’s cute and goes great with Harrison.

JustanotherTuesday · 26/03/2021 00:40

I like it and it goes well with Harrison.

Spencer Tracy is a cool namesake but the name isn't really my cup of tea, sorry (possibly because I dislike the sound of the nn Spence).

Your DS name Harrison has a nicer sound to me and I like way he could shorten it to Harry/Hal if he wants when older. You could consider other "surname" names, more like Harrison in style eg. Bennett (Ben), Finley (Finn), Maxwell (Max) or Sullivan (Sonny)?

PandaFluff · 26/03/2021 09:04

I like it. As others have said it's a bit different without being too try hard.

Thanks everyone for the amazing feedback!
I don’t want anything more ‘out-there’ even this is a little brave for me which is why I wanted opinions! 😁
@iamnotwhouthinkiam My step son is Finley! I get what you’re saying, there isn’t an option to shorten it like Harrison and Finley, Spence doesn’t do it for me 😂 Saying that, we call Harrison ‘Bobs’ ... no idea where that came from!!
I think it might be our firm choice, I literally can’t imagine any other name but will show your suggeststions to hubby!

Ah you have to go for it op! You sound so excited about it. I'll be annoyed if you don't WinkGrin

Orchidflower1 · 27/03/2021 08:30

I like it- different but not weird and fits well with the sibling name. I also like Cooper, Taylor, Jackson and Carson so I’m keen on the surname/ first name thing!

MrsFin · 27/03/2021 09:11

I don't like first names as surnames either, but lots of boys' names are also surnames; Oliver, David, Anthony, Christopher, George, Andrew, John, Philip, Michael, Robert, Alexander, Edward, James, Benjamin, Rees/Rhys, Paul, Evan, Henry, Charles, William, Nicholas.....

But I don't like Spencer. Sorry.

Drunkenmonkey · 27/03/2021 17:42

If you like a name that much you should use it. It's a perfectly good name but it will never be super popular on Mumsnet where the taste is very traditional.
It is a cool name that a boy will be proud to have, please don't second guess yourself Smile

I think it's fine. Surnames for forenames is not some crime against civilisation. I think posters who say that have a 1950's terror of the neighbours looking down on them for committing a terrible, lower-middle-class faux pas. Tell a Scot that Stewart, or Cameron or Harris is not a proper name.

Heartofstrings · 27/03/2021 18:26

I have a Spencer. Go for it
