What does MN think?

Can't decide if baby Bruce is cute or crazy.

My immediate go to was Springsteen (cool), DH's was Batman (also cool), and then we thought of Forsythe.... 😂🙈

Oh dear, I can imagine your distress itsme, it’s great for people who say there are not bothered one bit by what others think, but I think most of us are to some extent. When I was pregnant I posted a few queries on the board and quickly learned that it was just the same as telling people name choices in RL - people’s opinions start to contaminate what you think. Exactly why I never told anyone my fave baby names in RL and just named them before people would be rude enough to comment. But I often comment brutally honestly on these boards, as people seem to be looking for that.

No!!

Names have different connotations in different countries. So Bruce is a strong classic name in Scotland from what people are saying. I'd think of Bruce Forsythe, although I liked Bruce Forsythe. In America surnames as first names are considered quite classy I believe but not always in England. Paul was the 13th most popular baby boy name in france in 2018 I believe but it's not as popular here as it was decades ago. Just varies

@lynseysyesnyl no need to apologise at all. You can't help what other people type!
I'm sorry too.....It's probably not helped you at all! Take care and good luck with everything x

Honestly, I think this might be the most angsty baby name thread I've ever been on. From the bike and vitriol slung around you would think the OP had suggested Adolf.

Bruce is a perfectly acceptable name and with plenty of strong namesakes (Willis, Lee, Springsteen et al). I think particularly in Scotland it has strong cultural associations.

OP if you love it, use it and your DS will totally own it

WildCherryBlossom · 23/03/2021 17:33

bile and vitriol. I don't think any bikes were slung around (although a lot of messages have been deleted so it's possible I missed that bit of the barny.)

Bruce is nice! I like the sound of it; in my native language it means the sound of the ocean or the wind through the trees.
Do it!

That's lovely! I liked it anyway but that's put it right up there for me!

I just can't imagine introducing somebody to my baby "Bruce" sorry!

Im a teacher and have a little boy Bruce in my class, it’s a cute name 😊
Dulcinae · 23/03/2021 21:17

It's DS2's middle name. One of DS1's friends has it as a middle name. It sounds like a normal, though slightly dated, Scottish name to me.

oopsydaisyyy · 23/03/2021 21:32

@LouiseBelchersBunnyEars

All I can think off is Bruce Bogtrotter.

Stuffing chocolate cake into his mouth.

While the other kids chant

‘Bruce, Bruce, Bruce’

Sorry

😂😂 This
Sunny1986 · 23/03/2021 22:38

Bruce is my dog's name (named after Springsteen) so I love it, but couldn't now use it for a child. Also a good strong Scottish name - gets my vote

HerMammy · 23/03/2021 22:40

Quite a lot of Bruce’s in Scotland, I know plenty, nice strong name.
