Hi all,

So for a girl I love the name Charlotte. I think of my child as being Charlotte. I also like Harriet, Sadie, Georiga, Adaline (add uh line), and Eleanor but feel more connection to Charlotte (and a little to Harriet). Her middle name will be Rose after my Nana.

For a boy I've been struggling because I haven't felt attached to any names. I've liked Lachlan, Marlow, Oliver, Theodore. But recently I've discovered Wilfred and I can't get it out of my head.
So now I'm thinking Wilfred (nn Wilf, Wilfie (so cute!). For middle names I'm not sure... Last name Samson.
Wilfred Joesph (brothers name)
Wilfred John (dad's middle name... don't really like it)
Wilfred Wells (best friends surname... and I love the way it flows)
Wilfred James (flows well)
Wilfred Ellis

Thoughts?
TIA :)

I love Charlotte. It's beautiful. Also Harriet and Eleanor. Rose is lovely, too.
I like Wilfred. I like the Wells addition. Never heard of anyone doing that ! It's cool, though I love Wilfred Joseph. I've always loved Oliver. Yes, it's popular, but there's a reason for that. Am unsure about Lachlan and Marlowe.

Middle names don't matter so much imo as they are rarely said aloud - I'd just pick the one you like the sound of best or whomever you most want to honour. If you are using your Nana's name as a middle for a girl, what about your Grandad's name for a boys middle?

Charlotte is gorgeous and I really like Eleanor too - both are classic, elegant, quite timeless names (Harriet is also okay imo but Georgia and Sadie aren't my taste, sorry) .

Wilfred is perhaps becoming quite trendy again now - but I must admit it's my fave of your boys choices, I really like it! (Oliver is nice but super popular and Theodore is also okay I guess, but Lachlan and Marlow are too trendy for me).

I love Wilfred Wells!
Charlotte Rose is a lovely name, timeless so I'd stick with that

Oodilallygolly · 17/03/2021 23:26

Eleanor Rose and Wilfred John are fab

Lalliella · 18/03/2021 01:06

Isn’t Wilfred Boris Johnson’s baby? How about Henry?

cassrose · 18/03/2021 03:10

Thanks all. Wilfred is almost unheard of here in New Zealand I think. I must admit it took a while to grow on me. I do wonder what kind of reception I'd get with it.

@Lalliella no idea... I'm from New Zealand.

@IamnotwhouthinkIam My grandfathers name was John William and the other was Laurie Flavell. William is okay. John would honour him and my dad but I just really don't find John appealing. And Wilfred Laurie sounds weird. Although I have toyed with Wilfred Laurence.

We have very similar taste!! I love your girls list - Charlotte and Eleanor in particular (as well as Georgia simply because I think Georgie is the cutest nickname). And Theodore is perhaps my favorite boys name! It seems like you want to use a family name as the middle name and all of the ones you listed are quite nice. If you wanted to use a different one, I also think that Alexander sounds lovely with Wilfred.

Hufflepuffsunite · 18/03/2021 06:36

Charlotte is lovely and Charlotte Rose is beautiful (especially with the link to your grandmother). Definitely go with that!
Wilfred is great - I really like Wilfred Wells!

Whatsyourflava · 18/03/2021 07:52

Wilfred is one of my favourite names
Love it

SunshineLifeIsBest · 18/03/2021 08:03

Charlotte & Lachlan are the best.

SunshineLifeIsBest · 18/03/2021 08:03

Sorry I really don't like Wilfred at all.

Bruce2 · 18/03/2021 09:57

Prefer Harriet to Charlotte personally, but Charlotte still a very beautiful name.

Wilfred my favourite out of your boys list

KirstenBlest · 18/03/2021 10:45

Charlotte - like
Harriet - like
Sadie - don't like
Georiga - Georgia? - like
Adaline (add uh line) - dislike and will be said as Adduh-leen or Ayda-line
Eleanor - not keen, too many El-names around

Lachlan, Marlow, Oliver, Theodore -
I dislike Theodore. Marlow is a town in Bucks. Lachlan has the ch in it and people will probably say it as Lack-lun.
Oliver is fine.

Wilfred - ok but you are naming a person not just a cute little baby.

Wilfred Joseph - fine
Wilfred John - fine
Wilfred Wells (best friends surname... and I love the way it flows) - doesn't flow with the surname. Nice place to visit. Bit strange to use a friend's surname. Not sure I'd want to be double-u, double-u surname.
Wilfred James (flows well) - s S doesn't flow brilliantly
Wilfred Ellis- s S doesn't flow brilliantly

James is probably the safest, but John flows better.

PlantPotting · 18/03/2021 12:14

Love the name Wilfred
Also like Winston and Walter

PlantPotting · 18/03/2021 12:15

Wilfred Laurence is completely perfect

NoMoreZigAndSharko · 18/03/2021 14:19

I love Charlotte and Wilfred.

I think BoJo's son is Wilfred Laurie? So I wouldn't use Laurence as a middle name. But in NZ it probably is less of an issue.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 18/03/2021 17:58

I'd be really tempted to use John as a middle name if it honours both your Dad and Grandad - then it's a lovely family link to 3 generations (and I personally like classic John, it has a quiet strength to me).

partyatthepalace · 18/03/2021 20:50

Wilfred Wells is great

I love Charlotte too but there are a LOT of them, how about Harriet Charlotte Rose, as Rose is a VERY popular middle name as well so this adds a bit of interest.

PlanetPuddle · 19/03/2021 10:08

I'm not sure I'd name a child after my best friend unless there's a special reason for it.

I love Wilfred and it gives him the option of Will, Fred or Freddie when he is older if he likes.

If you are attached to Charlotte then use it. I think it's possible to over think these things and if a particular name is calling to you then that is for a reason.
