So i’m expecting a girl in September, she’ll most likely have dark eyes and dark hair. I really love the name Raven, last name would be Octavia. Does Raven Octavia sound nice and any ideas for a middle name?

Sounds like raving octavia to me. doesn't flow and i dont personally like, it but its up to you of course. Octavia is nice

Octavia is beautiful - when you say it's a last name, do you mean it's your surname? (lucky you, if so!).

Raven has a lovely sound, but is quite brave for me personally (as it has quite a goth image - what if she's a bright, sunny, pastel person?).

Having said that, it has an obviously popular/more commonplace nn in Rae (that she can always go by if she dislikes it) - so Raven probably is a much more useable name than my first instincts suggest.

I love it with your surname - the perfect combo :) As an aside I've noticed on a lot of name threads lately that someone will always come along and suggest the name Alice even on a thread like yours where your preferred name vibe is clearly nothing like an (to me) insipid name like Alice! Is there a campaign to get Alice into the top 10 names or something?

Yes Octavia is my surname, thank you! I plan on her nickname being either Rave or Rey (or Rae) so she has got the choice of being Rey if she dislikes her name as she gets older. Thanks for your opinion :)

If you like it that’s what matters, a middle name is tricky! Raven could also make a lovely middle name as it seems to flow with Octavia.

I like Raven but I don’t think it flows with Octavia. When I say them together, Raven runs into Octavia and it’s hard not to put the emphasis on Noc.

TBH It sounds a bit stage-namish and try hard. I find it helpful to picture potential children's names on a CV and imagine what kind of jobs they could do. Raven Octavia - actress/singer, artist, superhero?

Working in the NHS it's tricky with names that can be reversed.

For example, Bailey George or George Bailey?

Oh dear. Whenever we see ravens we say “they’re raven mad they are” sorry. It just makes me think of raving mad. I don’t really see it as a name. You wouldn’t call your baby Crow would you?

I see how it can be reversed but i've never heard of anyone with the last name Raven so i'm not too worried about that.
