Children with same letter first name

Is this an awful thing to do? For some reason all the boys names I like start with the same letter.

(It's not this name or letter) but it's like I have an Arthur and my favourites for a second boy are Alfie and Archie.

Don't want to come across all Kardashian!

Me and my brother have names with the same initial letter that with hindsight do sound a bit cheesy together, think 'Tom and Tilly' or 'Ben and Bethany'

I honestly don't recall anyone ever commenting or it being an issue at all (my parents are as far away from Kardashian type people as you can be!)

We are both in our 40s now

I agree with the above, if the name sounds and looks different then it should be ok. I’d steer clear of anything too “matchy”.

I once knew twins back in the day called Michael and Michelle, which was very odd.

I personally am not a fan of siblings having the same first letter name. We have ruled out names solely because of this.

As a side note, my second boy is Arthur and his nickname is Archie...so might be too similar anyway.

It’s a non-issue. We have two dc with the same initial and have yet to receive a letter that’s addressed to Miss A Smith (example)

They generally come addressed to ‘the parents of Alice Smith’ or to Anna Smith . Maybe it was more of a problem in the past but they just don’t come addressed like that any more.

That's while they are young. DH and I have the same initial and it's not the first time we have missed the Mr / Mrs when opening mail.
I know others where parent and child have ran into the same issue.

We deliberately avoided all names with the same initial as us.

You can't read your own mail...it's not as reason not to have children with the same initial!

I have this with my second 2. Actually wanted to change the spelling of the third childs name to avoid having the same initials(there are a few differentways to spell her name), but went with the spelling I originally chose, so they do have the same initials.

We did it without thinking. Trying to call for the right one to come downstairs becomes a feat of oral gymnastics.

My younger sister and I have the same first initial. My mother had the name tapes printed with just the initial and surname when I went to secondary school so it was easy to hand down the uniform. However, I adopted the use of both initials early on because if anything addressed to Ms M ...... arrived at the house my younger sister would insist on opening it. Years later I still use the middle D. I recommend avoiding such confusion.

Amichelle84 · 18/03/2021 08:45

We are 3 siblings and all M's, never was an issue

Parker231 · 18/03/2021 08:50

My DSis and I have the same initial and it’s never been an issue. Neither of us changed our surname when we got married so still have the same first initial and surname.

AndreaMarteau · 18/03/2021 08:58

I have a boy and a girl with the same initial first name. My son also has the same name as his dad (it was an unusual name and a family tradition).

Have to say though, as my son is now nearly an adult, it's a bit of a PITA when post comes and no one is sure if it's for him or his dad. And filling in the census recently was extremely confusing, trying to work out which one they were asking about. I wouldn't recommend it, tbh.

Mrs A Smith Mr A Smith

Window envelopes where the print isn't always bang on.

Mine are in their teens and yet to have post confusion. I guess by the time that happens they’ll be living elsewhere.
I do know someone who has the same first and middle initials as her hubby and it has led to accidentally opening post. Think Sarah Elizabeth Smith and Stephen Edward Smith.

So little comes in the post these days that I wouldn’t let it put me off a name.
