Violet - Sister for Joseph & Charlie

We are about to have our third baby, it is going to be a girl. She has two big brothers, called Joseph (3 years old) & Charlie (nearly 2).

We have been planning on calling her Violet, as we love the name and have been so settled on calling her it.

Recently someone made the association with Charlie & the Chocolate factory, which we had already known about with Violet but it never clicked with us that we would have Charlie and Violet which are both out of the film, and also ‘Grandpa Joe’ is in it.

Would you hear our children’s names and think Charlie and the Chocolate factory straight away and think we’d used the film for inspiration?

We definitely haven’t and are gutted we may not be able to use ‘Violet’ anymore, but just wanted to gather some thoughts/suggestions before it’s too late!

Thanks

@CabernetSoWhat

Eh? I know Ronnie & Reggie Kray. Who the hell are Violet & Charlie Kray? Confused

Now you've pointed out the C&TCF connection, I can see it, but I think it's a sweet (no pun intended) connection and not obvious enough to be a problem. Verruca might have tipped it over the edge, but I think you're fine with Violet.

Violet was their mum and Charlie was their older brother.
Nell96 · 16/03/2021 11:22

Nope, didn't make that association. Violet is a beautiful name, go for it!

StellaKowalski · 16/03/2021 13:33

Adding to my above comment, no OP, I also didn't think of the Kray Twins at all.

@SmeleanorSmellstrop

Actually cant for the life of me remember there being a Violet in CATCF?
"Violet! You're turning violet."

She's the competitive one who has a world record for chewing the same piece of chewing gum for the longest.

I wouldn't make the connection OP. I think because Charlie and Violet aren't "out there" names and so have lots of different associations.

nestlestealswater · 16/03/2021 21:14

I didn't make the connection and I read that book with my DD not long ago. It's a really lovely name.

MercyBodle · 17/03/2021 02:40

Violet is gorgeous and perfect with the brothers' names. I would never have made the link that you mentioned.

Lalliella · 18/03/2021 18:26

Violet is a beautiful name, I would never make the CATCF link (or Just William). Please call her Rose or Lily as a middle name 😊

TatianaBis · 19/03/2021 08:37

It's beautiful. I don't think Krays or CATCF - I think Violet Bonham Carter and Violet Trefusis.

WonkyCactus · 19/03/2021 08:45

I wouldn't make the connection. Violet is a lovely name.

Flymetothestars · 19/03/2021 10:48

Love Violet so much

Would never think of the Chocolate Factory
That's a bit of a reach I think

MumofSpud · 19/03/2021 10:56

My DD was going to be Violet Elizabeth - but 'Just William' put paid to that (showing my age)

Violet is great - it's not as if you want to call her VeruccaGrin

Every name has connotations - you could drive yourself crazy !!

Minty82 · 19/03/2021 10:57

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is the first thing I think of when I hear the name Violet anyway, so I’d definitely spot a Charlie/Violet sibling combo. Nice names though and I don’t think it matters.

Bibidy · 19/03/2021 11:03

I do associate the (beautiful) name Violet with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - regardless of Charlie & Joseph - but don't think it's much of a problem at all.

I was chatting to my sister about how I love the name and she actually thinks of Violet Beaudelaire from a Series of Unfortunate Events so not everyone shares the same associations anyway Smile

CaptainSpirit · 19/03/2021 14:18

Violet is one of the most beautiful girls names in the world - it's my eldest DDs name. Grin

Funnily enough had she been a boy I was pretty set on calling her Charlie! You have a lovely taste in names, OP. Smile
