Changing surname, initials ASS?

Husband wants to change his name, our children have both of our surnames double barrelled. Currently our eldest's initials are AS-C (has a middle name beginning with L but not certain that the initial for that would be used?!) but husband is thinking about using his mother's surname which begins with S so eldest would be AS-S or ALS-S.

Would we be setting her up for a life of name misery?! Or would the middle name be used and all would be fine?
We have thought about a new family name but can't think of anything that we like much!

I work for a massive org where we are mostly known by our initials and our email addresses are aliases made from our initials. Being tagged @ASS in every single email, doc and report would be awful.

Please don't!

I have a double barrelled surname (from birth- I’m not married).

I also have a middle name, so if I was your child I’d be ALS-S.

At work we use codes all the time (daily- email addresses, meetings- all the time) and the codes are either two letter or three letters and it’s my middle name initial that’s left out of my code. So in your child’s situation I’d be ASS at work. And as I say it’s used a lot.

To a certain extent it depends how often you use the full surname. I often cut out the first bit of mine out so people know me as just the second half. But even so, work still use the three letter code, and this was largely out of my control.

Thanks all for confirming my thoughts on it, DD has suggested an alternative that we actually quite like so we're going to think on it and add it to our list (of now 2 names!) that would be good alternative names! She's also suggested Carrot but she got her way with naming the dog Salad, there's no way I'm changing my surname to Carrot Grin

I don’t think you can give your child the initials ASS, middle names are not always used. It’s not fair on her.

I still think the best idea would be to drop the name he doesn't like and all use your name. Much less hassle and you said you have a cool name!
