Variation of Deborah

Hi all

We are planning on using Deborah (DMs name) as a middle name for our baby girl. As DD1 has MILs name. I don't mind it but I'm not sure it sounds right with her first name. Can anybody think of any other similar sounding names to Deborah?

We are calling her Emilia and our surname starts with a D.

TIA

I would still use Deborah if the idea is to name her after your mum. But if you don't think Emilia Deborah flows well, how about adding another MN before Deborah?

Cardboardeaux · 06/03/2021 13:39

Also Fwiw, I think Emilia Deborah sounds fine, both very nice names!

NannyR · 06/03/2021 13:43

If you are wanting to honour your mum by using her name I would just stick with Deborah, it doesn't matter if they don't flow as it's not that often you will say the full name out loud. Using another name (even if it's similar or has the same meaning), wouldn't work as it's not your mum's name.

Not much point looking for something which sounds like Deborah - you're honouring your mother so use her name . Emilia Deborah is fine. Nobody every uses their middle name anyway, after the first few weeks.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 06/03/2021 14:01

I think Emilia Deborah is lovely and rolls off the tongue nicely. Stick with it!

Ellmau · 06/03/2021 14:04

I don't see any problems with Emilia Deborah.

zingally · 06/03/2021 15:09

I think the two names go together just fine. :) I think if the idea is to honour your mum, you should stick with the original.

My dd has my mum's name as a middle name... We briefly considered changing the spelling (it can be done multiple ways), but in the end, just thought "why bother?" and stuck with it as it is.

islathepaella · 06/03/2021 15:37

Thanks everyone, I think we will stick with it!

I like Emilia Deborah, lovely choice.

caringcarer · 06/03/2021 15:55

You will make you Mum happy.

partyatthepalace · 06/03/2021 18:11

The only way to name her after after your mum is to use your mum’s name. I agree Emilia Deborah isn’t a great combo, but if it bothers you stick something in between - Emilia Lucy Deborah breaks it up nicely as many other names would

embolass · 06/03/2021 18:22

Emilia Deborah is lovely-go with it!!

sorryforswearing · 06/03/2021 18:25

Emilia Deborah sounds just fine and I’m very picky.

nitsandwormsdodger · 06/03/2021 18:25

If you are honouring someone it's no honour if you change the name
Names don't need to go/flow they are only said altogether at birth at my wedding and daughters christening only first and last names were used

Fembot123 · 06/03/2021 18:25

Zebra?

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 06/03/2021 18:25

Deborah is fine.

Movinghouseatlast · 06/03/2021 18:28

I think it is fine. In practice middle names don't get used or said out loud often anyway.

If you are doing it for your mum then you should use her actual name I think.

MuddleMoo · 06/03/2021 22:17

Aw that's so sweet of you OP. I'd stick with Deborah

Cindie943811A · 06/03/2021 22:27

Sounds fine to me and I see to be very aware of dissonance when it comes to names.

mrwalkensir · 06/03/2021 22:32

she can be Emilia D for short which sounds cool...

User1511 · 06/03/2021 22:36

I think it goes really well.
