How did you choose your children's second names?

Mine are named after saints I prayed to during pregnancy.
I guess a lot have second names after grandparents (I'm named after my paternal grandmother).
If you don't have those reasons, do you just pick a pretty name that you like?

I'm not English - dd has an english first name, her middle is from my heritage.

We picked names we liked, which happened to be very popular middle names - think Grace, Mae, Rose. They go really well with our chosen first names, which are much rarer - dd2 isnt quite in the top 100, dd1 isn't even in the top 1000. My name was the top girls name the year I was born and I was forever known by my surname or initial too. I quite like that my dds will probably have similar middle names to lots of their friends, seeing as their first names are more unusual.
