Copying baby name

I told my friend our chosen baby name. She said how another friend always wanted to call her child that, she isn't pregnant. I used to be really good friends with this other friend and vaguely remember her mentioning this but was a long time ago. I dont see this friend anymore and don't see us being close again. My partner suggested this name and we both really like it. Its a popular name so not unusual. Will it looked like I have copied her name?!

No it won't. Just go for it.

BallsToYouSue · 19/02/2021 22:37

I think I'd still use it, unless it's MEGA unusual, like Balonz or Gandalf or something.

mummabubs · 19/02/2021 22:44

No one owns a name! Do it 😊

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 19/02/2021 22:46

Not at all, if it's a popular name. I don't see how someone would think you'd copied it, if 100's of other baby's across the country are given the same name each year. I'd expect you've also heard the name before in tv/film/books/music etc or have met someone with that name too (as well as hearing it mentioned by your old friend.)

BuffaloMozzarella · 19/02/2021 22:49

I would use it.

Your choice but I would. My daughter has the same (quite popular) name as my good friend's daughter, and also my brother in law's daughter...All fine!

Bluesername · 20/02/2021 00:13

I can't see a problem there at all. You're not stopping the other woman from using the name one day if she wants.

Mavedrai · 20/02/2021 03:21

Even if she does think you copied her, who cares? She isn't a significant part of your life anymore by the sound of it. I would use the name if I were you.

Aquamarine1029 · 20/02/2021 03:24

I wouldn't waste one more second thinking about this. Use the name.

katy1213 · 20/02/2021 03:40

Has she copyrighted it?

calimommy · 20/02/2021 04:09

She's not even expecting though? Who's to say she will ever have a boy/girl to suit the name even if she does have a baby. And besides, I can tell you from experience that names you think you adore before you are pregnant can become meh once you are pregnant. Even names I had on a list for a previous pregnancy I have gone off for a subsequent pregnancy 😂 🤷‍♀️

zeddybrek · 20/02/2021 04:22

Use it, no one owns a name.

AnnLouiseB · 20/02/2021 04:24

She’s not even pregnant!

My son has almost the same name as my best friend’s son, who was born 6 months earlier. It’s a total non-issue.

NewScone · 20/02/2021 14:51

Use it

Edenember · 20/02/2021 16:46

No it won’t. Use the name you love.
