Girls names and nicknames

I love the following names and nicknames that I’ve derived from some of them - just wondering if you think the longer names or the nicknames themselves are better/would work better on a person from childhood through to adulthood? (By which I mean I like the longer names and nicknames both as standalone names and can’t decide which would be best!)
Also appreciate outside views on the names in general - I love them myself but I know my taste isn’t particularly “traditional”.

Delilah (Dolly)
Dorothea (Dottie)
Evangeline (Evie)
Harlow (Hallie)
Genevieve (Gigi)
Cleo
Neve
Caia
Winter
Daphne

I think Hallie is my favourite nn as a stand alone name :) Dont really like either version of the first two, sorry.
Have you considered Eva, instead of Evie?

Nice list.

I think these nicknames are all too nicknamey to be used on the birth cert, as they are quite little girly - but all good as nicknames.

Genevieve, Cleo, Dorothea and Evangeline my favourites, vaguely in that order. Am not mad about Delilah and Daphne, just too fluffy for me, but if you like that tone, they are nice.

Am less keen on Harlow, Winter and Neve as they don't have the same rich history as the others. Well - Niamh does spelt like this, but would be a pain in the arse if you aren't in Ireland. Caia has a nice meaning but it's not a v distinctive sound and also a pain for spelling.

Dottie and Evie are nicknames to me, not full names.

I like Hallie much better than Harlow. Harlow just makes me think of the town, which isn't a particularly nice place.

The others all sound fine to me. I'm not sure how to pronounce Caia (K-eye-ah?)

Delilah (Dolly) - trendy but lovely. Dolly is not an clear nn, Dee or Della would be more obvious
Dorothea (Dottie) - nn Dolly or Dotty, but I dislike all 3 names they sound very dated/old-lady imo
Evangeline (Evie)- okay, I prefer the simple Eva or Evelyn/Evelina (nn Evie)
Harlow (Hallie)- Harlow is celeb trendy, Hallie will get confused with popular Holly
Genevieve (Gigi) - beautiful and Gigi is a cute nn, or you could use Evie or Neve as nn's
Cleo - brave but pretty, fun and very cool
Neve - lovely, although may have spelling issues with Niamh
Caia - okay but again spelling issues (Kaia is more well known, if trendier)
Winter - a bit trendy but lovely, would make a cool middle name - no pun intended
Daphne - nothing wrong the name as such but I dislike it personally (whiny sound and "daffy/daft").

Genevieve is gorgeous, shouldn't date (I've met a few of different ages) and has lots of nice nn options and so would be my pick. Cleo and/or Winter would be pretty, fun middle name options.

i love evangeline and genevieve. both were on my shortlist. the only thing that put me off evangeline was the nickname evie, it’s very popular around my area. i have a gigi, short for georgiana. i also have an emmeline, nickname emmie.

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 18/02/2021 03:58

Love all your names except Harlow & Hallie , Halitosis I always think . I would put the full name on BC & use the nn you love .

lalalalands · 18/02/2021 05:57

Delilah (Dolly) - sorry but I think Dolly is awful even for a child

Dorothea (Dottie) - would go with Dorothea on BC and Dotty as NN - lovely name

Evangeline (Evie) - same

Harlow (Hallie) - would go with Hallie on BC rather than Harlow, which is quite different and not that nice anyway

Genevieve (Gigi) - not a fan of Gigi but Genevieve is lovely - how about Vivi as NN?

Cleo - its alright

Neve - Niamh?

Caia - nice enough name

Winter - don't like (what if she likes other seasons better?)

Daphne - not a fan

KirstenBlest · 18/02/2021 06:46

Delilah (Dolly) - awful
Dorothea (Dottie) - dislike Dorothea but like Dorothy
Evangeline (Evie) - so many Evies around already. Not keen on Evangeline.
Harlow (Hallie) - dislike Harlow (not a very nice town in Essex), Hallie not great
Genevieve (Gigi) - Genevieve seems such a stodgy name and Gigi is too twee
Cleo - fine
Neve - Niamh is ok
Caia - Kaia is likely to be the more conventional spelling
Winter - grim
Daphne - fine
