I am expecting a little boy. I already have a Elizabeth and a Callum. We are finding it hard to decide on a name that is just as nice as Callum but we are struggling. We have come across Jonah. What does everyone think? Or does anyone have more suggestions. I cannot express how many hours I have spent looking at name lists Confused

I really like it. We know a young Jonah who goes by J most of the time.

whenwillthemadnessend · 17/02/2021 09:03

I love that name

I also love Rohan but my dh wouldn't have it.

It's unusual presently. I reckon it might catch on quick tho.

I like it. In a similar vibe:
Gideon
Levi
Seth
Jesse
Rafferty
Jago
Elias
Zachariah

I like it

Other thoughts - Reuben, Jerome, Silas, Patrick, Nathaniel, John, James, Kester, Rory, Alistair, Christian

Someone was also asking about Jonas recently which I liked too

Whatsyourflava · 17/02/2021 09:23

Jago

Cornish for james I think

Very nice I love Jonah. Also know a young boy called Judah which I love too.

Fits nicely with Elizabeth & Callum

Nanasueathome · 17/02/2021 09:42

Love the name Jonah
It’s the name given to my middle grandson too

Synchrony · 17/02/2021 09:52

I like it although as a teenager it was slang in my area for "loner". As in "You're such a Jonah". I don't know if that's still a thing though, it was 25 years ago.

Chilldonaldchill · 17/02/2021 10:44

I don't dislike Jonah but I do have the "unlucky person" connotation.
I much prefer Jonas.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 17/02/2021 11:47

Jonah's nice - has a pleasant sound. It's also fairly well known, easy to say and spell and Joe/Jay is a cool nn. But because it's not super common, he could get the odd "whale joke" (in the same way 30 years ago Noah's might have got ark jokes), but I don't think it would be a big deal.

If you aren't sure, I do love the suggestions of Nathaniel, Seth and Elias. Maybe Jared?

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 17/02/2021 11:49

Or Joel?

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 17/02/2021 11:51

Jonathan? (the Johnny/Jonty nn is really nice imo)
Nicholas? (Nico or Cole is pretty cool)

Nell96 · 17/02/2021 12:08

I think it's ok. I'm not that into biblical names though. Other suggestions - Joel, Jude, Levi, Ethan, Felix, Seth.

VenusClapTrap · 17/02/2021 19:43

I don’t like it. Too religious for me.

Sarahneedscoffee · 18/02/2021 09:12

Thank you for all your advice. Im still so stuck on names, some of the mentioned above are names already used within close family so can't use those. Im so stuck Smile. I think I am just going to leave it until he is born and just think of something then. Haha. X

Love it. Comfy to wear, easy to say and spell, everyone knows it but not overused, nice shortened form, cute on a little one but strong on a man. Lovely option 😊
