So far this is my list of boy names for (possible, not finding out the sex) DS2. Can anyone suggest any other names I might like? Dh is being very unhelpful and suggesting absolutely nothing.

I've got a very clear two favourites but dh says they're the ones he likes the least so I'd like some general name feedback as well.

Vincent
Bjorn
Atlas
Atticus
Leif
Ragnar
Angel
Gabriel
Heath
Leonardo

I like Ragnar and Leif very much.

VenusClapTrap · 09/02/2021 12:55

Suggestions that you might like: Magnus, Erik, Stellan

PatsyStone39 · 09/02/2021 13:01

Rafael
Kristoff
Aksel
Elias
Kasper
Johan
Viggo
Milas

PatsyStone39 · 09/02/2021 13:03

Oh and of your names, i love Gabriel (i have one of my own). We had Leif on our list as well. We are a half-Danish family.

Lelophants · 09/02/2021 13:04

Bjorn is that polar bear. Love the others. Maybe not Atticus anymore. What's your surname as Leif (Life) can sound a bit hippy.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 09/02/2021 13:06

Vincent. Love
Bjorn. Can't give an option as I have no idea how its pronounced.

Atlas. I like it and I know its a boys name, but It sounds very feminine and pretty to my ears.
Atticus. I don't like it, but I can see the appeal. However IMO you'd have to come from an upper class back ground to carry it off. It wouldn't suit a kid from an inner city estate.
Leif No.
Ragner. Quite like this.
Angel. Very effeminate for a boy. Angelo would be better and stronger.
Gabriel. Love this. My boy will be Gabriel. Its getting very popular though. If that bothers you, as You seem to like unusual names going by your list.
Heath. No.
Leonardo. No but I do like Leo.

Other names you might like.
Valentino.
Giuseppe
Antonio
Casper
Hudson
Jenson
Winston
Christian
Tristan
Ivan

Saywhatyoumeanandmeanwhatyousa · 09/02/2021 13:07

My honest opinion is that they’re all dreadful, with the possible exceptions of Leonardo and Atticus.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 09/02/2021 13:07

Sterling.
Finbar
Claude

TinyCake · 09/02/2021 13:10

Erik

TinyCake · 09/02/2021 13:13

Or
Arne

Heath is the only one I like out of your names sorry.

TinyCake · 09/02/2021 13:13

Or is not a name suggestion sorry

Warrickdaviesasplates · 09/02/2021 13:36

Thanks for the feedback so far!

Viggo, Magnus and Ivan have been added to my list!

I like the suggestion of Erik as well but that was the first name dh expressed a real dislike for so it was taken off.

@PatsyStone39 one of your suggestions is actually DS1s name so that has reassured me that I'm on the right track for names that sort of go together (although not essential, it's good that they won't be worlds apart)

@Lelophants you make a good point about the surname, our surname could sound quite hippy dippy with certain first names as it's an emotion type name, a bit like Joy or Hope.

Vincent - like
Bjorn - don't like
Atlas - a bit much, unless you are confident he will be massiveandd confident!
Atticus - ok, there are a few around so it definitely won't be an odd name
Leif - no
Ragnar - no
Angel - no - I can't help thinking that he might end up being a total non angel!

Gabriel - lovely! My favourite, by far
Heath - no
Leonardo - bit much imo, unless you are Italian

HenriettaHeffalump · 09/02/2021 13:41

I LOVE Magnus! Magnus or Gabriel would get my vote.

Bilgepumper · 09/02/2021 13:42

I love Gabriel and also Leo (rather than Leonardo).

NoddingTulip · 09/02/2021 13:57

Vincent - my favourite from your list
Bjorn - its okay
Atlas - not keen
Atticus - like
Leif - really don't like
Ragnar - quite like this one, sounds pretty cool.
Angel - sounds very feminine to me but probably as I know 2 both females (one short for Angelique)
Gabriel - nice
Heath - not keen
Leonardo - not keen on this one, prefer Leonard

I love Magnus from the suggestions.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 09/02/2021 14:01

Vincent -not keen but nothing wrong with it as such
Bjorn- a bit try hard for me, unless you are Scandi/have obvious Scandi heritage
Atlas -cool but a bit brave as a first name (would be a great middle)
Atticus -very nice, classical and literary vibes
Leif - lovely and more useable than your other Scandi choices as it has nature vibes too.
Ragnar- very cool but like Bjorn also too OTT unless you are Scandi imo
Angel - No, unless you have obvious Spanish heritage it's too feminine
Gabriel -Nice, fairly classic name
Heath - gorgeous, very useable (mixes both nature, celeb and surname trends)
Leonardo - too obviously DiCaprio/DaVinci unless you have Italian heritage

I love a lot of your choices, but I think they might just be too odd/teasable if you don't have heritage from that country.

Other suggestions - you might also like Nathaniel or Cassius, I love pp suggestions of Magnus and Erik and I also think Lars is fairly useable outside Scandinavia. I'd also suggest Matteo, Elio or Nico as more useable Italian boys names (if you are in the UK based)

FluffyEggsontoast · 09/02/2021 14:01

Laurence laurie
Tristan
Nathaniel

YoniAndGuy · 09/02/2021 14:04

If your DH won't suggest names himself, then he doesn't get to sit there vetoing the ones you do!

Just choose your favourite and go with that - especially if the baby is having his surname.

He either engages properly or he gets ignored.

YoniAndGuy · 09/02/2021 14:04

Oh and I will suggest Thorfinn

tuttifuckinfruity · 09/02/2021 14:12

Ragnar makes me cringe. Unless you are scandi, it is clearly naming a child after a the character in Vikings.

Bjorn isn't so bad as it's a more common / well known name in its own right.

None of the names are to my taste so I don't really have an opinion, but I do think Ragnar would be a mistake.

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 09/02/2021 14:27

Vincent, wonderful manly strong name
Heath , strong again but little bit mysterious, great for when he is older .

Tallybeebloom · 09/02/2021 14:31

What's your background OP? Some of the names have very strong connections to particular countries and cultures and your child might spend a lifetime of explaining to people 'no, I'm not Italian/Scandinavian...'

Out of those you've suggested I think Vincent is lovely, not well used without being too 'trying to be different'.
Similar names could be:
Dominic
Arthur
Sebastian
Frederick
Roderick

MerryChristmasToYou · 09/02/2021 14:38

From the names, i'm guessing at one parent being scandinavian.

Vincent - naughty boy's name
Bjorn - only associate it with Abba and Borg. Bjarne might be better (norwegian version)
Atlas - no
Atticus - no
Leif - fine
Ragnar - not sure
Angel - I'd associate it with latino heritage
Gabriel - not keen, too long
Heath - Ted Heath, Heath Robinson
Leonardo - Donatello, Raphael and Michaelangelo

Leif is my favourite, no idea if it is current or dated.
I like Magnus but it's probably far more popular than you think.

Warrickdaviesasplates · 09/02/2021 14:53

@YoniAndGuy the baby will probably have a double barrelled surname, I'm tempted to leave Dhs name off as I prefer my surname anyway. This will be dc3 though so should probably stick with the same as the other Dc.

@Tallybeebloom sadly no interesting heritage here, just a mixture of English and Irish on both sides. The names are just ones I like rather than any family or heritage link.

I like the Cassius and Nico suggestions.

I do prefer more unusual names. For various reasons DD has a common name and I really wish she didn't, there's 3 in her class and you can't move for hearing girls her age with the same name. DS has a slightly more unusual name and I absolutely love it so am hoping to avoid choosing another name I'm not that sold on.

I think my favourite ones so far are Ragnar, Heath, Vincent and Viggo. Atticus I like as a safe choice but am not crazy about.
