What do we think? Thinking Thea for short?

It's pretty and perfectly useable, but for me it also sounds a bit close to the more well known Anthea (which in turn sounds middle aged because of celeb Turner imo). Like pp I prefer the similar Alethea - I like the virtue meaning and the extra syllable means it shouldn't get confused with Anthea.

No , don’t like it or Thea , sounds too lispy to me .

testingmitb · 05/02/2021 14:10

Yes, that might be a problem for the poor kid. Have to pray for no lisp Grin

@Miljea My first thought too Hmm

partyatthepalace · 05/02/2021 21:21

Oh man, it’s very lisp-y, so I wouldn’t

But Anthea, Athena, Tabitha, Dorothea, Theodora are all quite nice alternatives

MamaLoLo1 · 05/02/2021 23:42

I have a Spanish friend called Altea. I think it's a cool name.

She might be named after the place
HeadlessGummyBears · 06/02/2021 06:16

It’s lovely! Always reminds me of the Swan Princess Smile

LeonaMar · 06/02/2021 07:22

I quite like it. Reminds me of Altea in Spain. Pronounced Al-Tay-Ah though. However, I’ve probs made up that pronunciation 😂

BlueYellowWhite · 06/02/2021 08:02

My friends DD is Althea and I had never heard it until we met and I think it's a beautiful name.

TinyCake · 06/02/2021 08:06

Athea is a nice alternative but I like Althea

2020Peepshow · 06/02/2021 10:26

I’m more in the Thea team. If you’re already thinking of nicknaming her Thea, you might as well go with Thea which is a lovely and full name in itself.

DejaVoodoo · 06/02/2021 14:42

Thea is beautiful and a perfectly acceptable name in itself. I wouldn't add the random Al

It's not 'random', Althea is a proper nameConfused

My granny had a friend called Althea when j was s child. That's the only one I've known. Nice name, though.
I really dislike Alethea: as others have said it sounds like Alicia with a lisp.

Cassie71 · 06/02/2021 19:05

There's an Althea in Robin Hobbs trilogy The Live ship Traders.

Love it!
I knew one Althea and she was the most kind and beautiful person.
