What do you think of Eric? Are there any nicknames that come to mind?

While I usually don't like the "old man" trend of names, weirdly I quite like Eric. I think it's because it also has quite a cool Scandi/Viking feel (although that's more obvious with the Erik spelling). Eric works well with Ada imo- both short, simple retro/vintage names. I don't think Eric would get a nn related to his name, it short enough already.

WagnerTheWehrWolf · 04/02/2021 11:46

Not a fan. It sounds like such a weak name to me, even with any Viking connections it may have.

fimimifi · 04/02/2021 11:49

I really like it. I particularly like the spelling Erik.

Greenknees · 04/02/2021 11:54

I think it’s a cute old person name that is making a comeback it isn’t super popular. It’s lovely and along the same lines as Ada.

Makes me think of bananaman (excellent way of getting him to eat fruit when he’s older) and Simon cowell’s son

Iwantmychairback · 04/02/2021 12:03

I like Erik.
I would expect it to be shortened at some point to Rik and then the cuter nickname of Ricky to evolve from that.

RuthW · 04/02/2021 12:11

Love it. That's what Dd would have been.

ZebraKid71 · 04/02/2021 12:33

I know a few little Eric's and one old Eric and I've never heard any of them be shortened.

Our boy is due February and he's going to be Eric.
Read many bad feedbacks across this site. Makes me wonder who is at the other end of the keyboard with some of the comments.
I just imagine the Katie hopkins type people.
Hope you did call him Eric. It's a strong name, doesnt fit into the typical boom names.
Alot of the old names seem popular like Albert, Alfred, Ronnie etc but Eric is still a minority and that's what we wanted.

UsernameIsHarderThanBabyName · 01/12/2021 14:09

Love it but prefer the Erik spelling

SallyWD · 01/12/2021 14:58

Love it. There's a little Eric in my son's class. I think it's quite a cool name now!

CloudyStorms · 01/12/2021 15:00

Eric nn. Ric

Mischance · 01/12/2021 15:01

My Dad was called Eric - everyone used to call him Air-wick! That dates him!

WyncyG · 01/12/2021 15:58

I quite like it! Was my grandad's name (would be well over 100 now) and I'm expecting a resurgence

Jossbow · 01/12/2021 17:32

as my dads brothers name, he'd often call him Rick

We, as small children, couldnt say Eric and called him Uncle ErrWic which quickly became Unlce Earwig

H03bags · 01/12/2021 19:44

Like it

MonsteraDeliciosa · 01/12/2021 20:33

Not a fan of the name I'm afraid, but the Eric I briefly dated (35 years ago!) went by the nickname "Rice" !!

DoucheCanoe · 01/12/2021 20:41

I like it - I know an Eric that goes by Ricky.

Bideshi · 01/12/2021 20:43

My FIL was Eric. Everyone called him Ricky

Notgotanyidea · 02/12/2021 19:09

The Eric I know is called Er. Pronounced like Air.
