DP and I are due a baby girl in a few months and both love the name Iona. My only concern is our surname is a noun so I worry about the “I own a..” sound. It’s not an obvious one like Carr or Boot, more of a geographical term. So my question is, do you think Iona is ok with a surname like Heath/Green/Moore?

I meant to add - I actually prefer Ione (i- OWE-nee) and it solves the problem!

We have a little girl called Iona, I'm biased but it is such a lovely name. Have you got options for a middle name? It maybe wouldn't matter so much about the surname...

I have an Iona so I might be biased, but it is such a lovely name. However, I really wouldn't use it with a surname that’s a noun.

Lorna is also beautiful.

Iona Green - you own a green what?
Iona Lane - middle-lane hogger on the motorway?

I think it's a lovely name. Even if your surname was Carr and a few people thought it sounded like "I own a car" it would be only a passing thought wouldn't it and nothing to worry about.
