A lovely classic but is it too popular? Interested to hear your thoughts

Was always my favourite girls name. My Grace is now 19. She has never had another Grace in her class and it suits her perfectly.

HappyTimeTunnelDinosaur · 02/02/2021 19:58

Weirdly I don't think Grace sounds at all like its meaning, I think it's the strong 'Grrr' sound.

Firebird83 · 02/02/2021 20:24

It’s nice, but it is overused.

Chilldonaldchill · 02/02/2021 20:30

It's ok.
I find it a bit boring.

gottakeeponmovin · 02/02/2021 21:41

Beautiful

Peppafrig · 02/02/2021 21:42

Very very common these days. My daughter has three in her class and I know many Graces.

Littlemonstereverywhere · 02/02/2021 21:44

I love it. I used to teach children and the few Graces I met were lovely!

Chunkymenrock · 02/02/2021 21:48

Ultra boring to me I'm afraid. Sounds similar to grease. So many nicer names out there.

ElfAndSafetyInspector · 02/02/2021 21:48

@mrbensbaker

It's amazing.

Love it. It peaked in 2006 and has been falling each and every year since then. About to leave the top 10. Is used far less than it used to be.

partyatthepalace · 03/02/2021 00:59

Quite like it - but I like the meaning better than the sound, which is slightly too close to grease. Also always think it will be unfortunate if she is moody or clumsy.

tofuschnitzel · 03/02/2021 01:04

@MsTSwift

Over used now. Also quite cruel if the child ends up of larger build. Several we know are really rather the opposite of graceful
The name has nothing to do with being slender, and you are unkind to view someone in that way.
Tavannach · 03/02/2021 01:05

Very much influenced by the Grace I know - she is a lovely person and so I love the name.

tofuschnitzel · 03/02/2021 01:07

Definition of Grace. Where does it say you have to be slender? It's got nothing to do with weight. Why do people have to be so unkind?

Yawn. Boring

DramaAlpaca · 03/02/2021 01:09

I don't mind it as a middle name.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 03/02/2021 01:16

It's grown on me & I quite like it now

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 03/02/2021 02:05

Grace is fine- Yes it's popular, but it's a elegant sounding, fairly traditional name that shouldn't date her quite as badly as some of the more trendy names in the top 20. You just have to decide if you care that she may not be the only Grace in her class or hobby groups.

If you aren't sure, I personally prefer the similar retro/vintage May (very underused as a first name) or the more popular, but romantic sounding Rose (although there seem to be are a fair few Rosie's about).

rockinaftermidnite · 03/02/2021 02:30

Love Grace

MercyBodle · 03/02/2021 03:53

Lovely, and still lovely though popular. Not everyone is put off by popularity.

Also, some names - particularly more classic ones like Grace, Kate, Sophie, Jack, William - carry popularity much better than names that are only popular for a decade such as Jayden, Aria, Riley.

SmeleanorSmellstrop · 03/02/2021 06:33

I think it's so overdone that it's been a bit spoilt

Iaintaffraidofcoldtoast · 03/02/2021 06:42

Tbh OP if you like the name it doesn’t matter what people on the internet say.

MsTSwift · 03/02/2021 08:19

The 2 Graces I know are the exact opposite of graceful. Why virtue names are a gamble.

SmellsLikeAHamsterCage · 03/02/2021 10:47

Gracie is quite popular around here.

YoniAndGuy · 03/02/2021 11:49

Technically lovely but so overused it's lost all meaning. So uber dull.
