If I like Hazel, what other names would I like?

We're trying to come up with a shortlist of names for baby girl due in April and really struggling!

Current favourite is Hazel but not 100%. Others on the list are
Rowan
Caroline nn callie
Laura

Not a huge fan of the old lady name revival that's going on at the moment but given I've no further clue I'll take any suggestions 😂

I loved the name Hazel when having my little girl, I tired to convince OH but he was adamant on Autumn Grace 😋

Some other names we had on our list were:
Emilia
Arya
Freya

Hazel is lovely.

Another nature name?
Briar
Berry
Coral
Pearl (but old lady, maybe!)

Kiki275 · 26/01/2021 18:15

Hazel is on my girls short list along with Amber.x

PlantPotting · 26/01/2021 22:24

Hazel is really really beautiful, I think you should stick with that.

Most of the alternatives I was thinking of have already been suggested. How about Lucy?

Rowan is my baby girls' name and to be fair if I'd had realised Roman is the fastest rising boy name I wouldn't have picked this name. I still like it though but it does get slightly lost with all the similar names around in the top 100 but especially Roman. Rohan also seems to be fairly prevalent. I hate Row shortening too but seems I'll just have to live with it!

Caroline and Laura are nice what about Gemma or Jemima?

Eaumyword · 26/01/2021 22:28

Hazel is a beautiful name but maybe I'm biased, as someone I love very much is called that. I think it''a pretty, timeless name. I also adore Violet, Jemima and Harriet.

Hazel and Rowan are lovely, as are many of the names others recommended.

My first thought was Halina, though probably more a just visual similarity.

I went to school with sisters called Hazel and Bryony which I always thought went really well together

They are all slightly different in style to me.

Laura is a gorgeous, simple, classic that's not overused anymore - similar names to me are Anna, Sarah/Sara, Emma, Nina, Julia, Lydia and Lara.

Rowan (like Hazel) is a pretty, very "nature" name imo so Eden, Wren, Jessamine/Jessamy, Cassia, Bryony, Dahlia and Fern could be similar.

Caroline (nn Callie) is a lovely, traditional, patrician sounding name - other choices could be Marina (nn Marnie/Mina), Henrietta (nn Hettie/ Etta), Frederica (nn Freda), Georgina (nn Gia/Ginny), or Josephine (nn Effie/Sephie).

Hazel is so pretty & Caroline too , not so keen on Laura , little 80s to me .

EmmaGrundyForPM · 27/01/2021 04:08

Fiver? Grin

Sorry, couldn't resist

Sendingasurprise · 27/01/2021 04:27

Not to denigrate your choice, but have always found Hazel a bit of a strange name. It looks and sounds so harsh to me...just goes to show what a personal thing names are. Fay/Faye, Willow and Violet are others I can't warm to.....so you might like.

Ellada19 · 27/01/2021 06:34

Love Hazel!

Hazel - 10/10 - lovely name. At number 148 in the official charts so name is not overused. I think you should use this beautiful name.
Rowan - 5/10 - very trendy at moment and will likely date. In the top 80 names so is much higher in the charts than all your other options and will be even higher by time official 2020 government statistics are released this summer. I know so many baby Rowan and Romans now. Takes the shine off.
Caroline nn callie - 9/10 outside the top 1000 names so extremely underused. A great choice
Laura - 9/10 - I really like this- would sound very fresh in 2021. I like the meaning behind it and it is about to leave the top 200 names so definitely a good choice.

Sarahplane · 27/01/2021 11:27

I have a Hazel, the best name. Mu other shortlist was Isabel.
