Celina or Serena?

We absolutely love these names but cannot decide between the two! DH loves Serena and I love Celina! I love the moon goddess and heaven association to the name... I also like Serena as a second option, for DH it’s the other way round, Serena first option and then Celina.
What associations do you have to these names and which one is your favourite?

Serena.

There's something about Celina I don't like although I really can't put my finger on what it is. Something about the sound.

FoggyDay58 · 21/01/2021 09:11

I think with Celina you/she will spend her whole life spelling it for people (Selena, and all possible variants) so I would go for Serena based on that.

Newfor2021 · 21/01/2021 09:13

Serena is far more beautiful imo, I don’t know the name meaning as moon goddess sounds a lovely meaning but not keen on Celina, sorry.

BigusBumus · 21/01/2021 09:16

Serena just makes me think of the tennis player.

I prefer Celina but spelt Selina.

Sausagedog1 · 21/01/2021 09:18

Ooo I like both. I know a Selina so am used to that spelling. I think I like Celina slightly more due to the meaning but prefer the sound Serena.
Serena is heavily associated with the tennis player for me so I would probably use Celina

NotExactlyMrsCurrentAffairs · 21/01/2021 09:20

I know two Selena's. I too think many people will misspell it your way.
I prefer Serena

Zofloratheexplora · 21/01/2021 09:20

Serena

ParisJeTAime · 21/01/2021 09:23

I like both, but prefer Serena. I think it's just a more pleasant sound. Selina, although nice is a big more lispy and maybe a bit harsh to my ears.

Santaiscovidfree · 21/01/2021 09:24

Serena was a model of car about 20 years ago - I had one!!
What about Athena?

sleepingfox · 21/01/2021 09:25

I prefer Serena.

ParisJeTAime · 21/01/2021 09:28

I think the name is a lot more well known than the car model. I've never heard of it. Everyone has heard of Serena Williams, so it's obviously a name to most people, rather than a car.

KirstenBlest · 21/01/2021 09:42

Serena, but I know a Serena, Sarina and a Serina.

Celina will get Selina and Celena.

RedMarauder · 21/01/2021 09:49

Serena - with the tennis player, Serena Williams
Celina - spelt "Selina" with a news reader, Selina Scott.

I prefer Serena plus everyone will know how to spell it due to the famous link.

crabette · 21/01/2021 13:14

I actually thought Serena Van der Woodsen from Gossip Girl before Serena Williams, not sure what that says about me!!

Celina I'd associate with Catwoman.

Neither are bad associations! And both are lovely names, but I prefer Serena too.

FreeChuro · 21/01/2021 13:17

I'm going to be absent help whatsoever but I absolutely adore both names

FreeChuro · 21/01/2021 13:17

Absolutely **

2020quelhorreur · 21/01/2021 13:17

Celina reminds me of Celine Dion. I like Serena!

Luckyelephant1 · 21/01/2021 14:21

Serena. It's beautiful and a really 'flowy' sort of name.

Like a pp said I can't work out what it is but there's something I don't like about Celina/Selina. Maybe the 'L' sound.

partyatthepalace · 21/01/2021 19:29

I love Serena - so beautiful and underused, and the serenity association is great.

Not mad keen on Celina/Selena, just not as pretty. I like Selene (sell-ee-nee) better - but not as much as Serena.

sherrystrull · 21/01/2021 19:35

I love Serena. It sounds like serene.

I don't like the leen sound in Celina and reminds me of semolina.

bridgetreilly · 21/01/2021 19:44

In order, I prefer:
Serena
Selena
Celina

But I like Sabrina better than all of them.

Firebird83 · 21/01/2021 19:51

I prefer Selina/Selena to Celina. Celina makes me think of Celine Dion.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 21/01/2021 19:52

If you want the obvious Moon Goddess link then I would personally spell it Selena (since Selene was the original name) - it's also the most popular/common spelling of the name now (in the UK but also internationally as far as I know).

I really love the sound of Selena (it's so slinky and elegant sounding imo - I think that is why the name has been used for several femme fatales in film/TV!) But Serena avoids the spelling issues of Selena/Selina/Celina and is a pretty name that's well known but not overused, so might be the safer option.

GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough · 21/01/2021 19:57

Serena I'm yet to meet a nice Celina 😂

Ellmau · 21/01/2021 20:28

Serena is beautiful. I also like Selene.
