Names like Rory

Just that really! I am looking for suggestions. DH vetoed this name.

I was thinking Keir, but not sure if the association with Keir Starmer is too strong now.

We have ties to Ireland and Scotland, so Irish or Scottish names I think we are fine to use.

Angus
Hamish

Not mad on Keir but is Ok. No one will be thinking c Keir Starmer when he’s grown up

milienhaus · 16/01/2021 16:35

I love Domhnall (as in Gleason)
Alistair and Douglas also great with good shorter options

CuddlyAsACactus · 16/01/2021 19:02

Oh Douglas is lovely!

I love Domhnall too, but worry that it maybe wouldn't travel well?

Ruadhan is nice too.

Domhnall can also, perfectly validly, be spelled Dónal. It's a great name, and completely unused in recent years in England.

CuddlyAsACactus · 16/01/2021 19:09

Come to think of it, I know a Donal, spelt that way. Maybe it is Dónal, but just Donal for ease?

Kiefer? I think Keir will forever be associated with Starmer unfortunately.

CuddlyAsACactus · 16/01/2021 19:15

I like Kiefer, but do think "Sutherland"!

That is my worry about Keir tbh.

Kieran, the anglicised version of Ciarán might work?
Nickname could be Kier, which sounds exactly the same in my accent to Kier!
I'm in Ireland and Dónal is more common where I am than Domhnall. Usually gets Doey as a nickname.

I like Rory but also like

Ruan
Rhuaridh

CuddlyAsACactus · 16/01/2021 19:35

Gregor was on our list last time. Hamish was on mine, but DH wasn't keen.

I think Ruairi / Rhuraidh would be too close to Rory.

metellaestinatrio · 17/01/2021 17:43

I love Rory and it would have been DD’s name had she turned out to be a boy. I also have a Barnaby if that helps?

How about Alexander or is that too “top 20”?

cheapskatemum · 17/01/2021 17:52

Struan
Ewart
Euan
Blair
Blaine
Menzies (it’s pronounced Mingus)
Lachlan

We have used some of the above and I love them.

Ebee19 · 18/01/2021 18:07

Archie or Arthur are quite similar. Also Rufus, Hamish, Angus, Scott?

Ebee19 · 18/01/2021 18:08

Ewan is another option too, or Jack?
