Love Alice and Thomas.

I also think Anna would suit
As would Isaac.

daisypond · 15/01/2021 09:18

They’re all good. Louisa is really nice. Do you want two girls both with names ending in A?
Thomas for a boy.

CuddlyAsACactus · 15/01/2021 09:25

Thank you!

I love Anna, but thought it might sound too much like Emma...

Thought about something like Anita or Annabel, which we could shorten to Annie?

Isaac is lovely too.

Not sure about Emma and Louisa due to the A sounds, as you say daisy.

Isaac doesn’t fit. It’s completely the wrong style. Annabel works.

CuddlyAsACactus · 15/01/2021 09:38

Tbf, I think DH vetoed Isaac last time, so makes sense if it isn't similar in style to the other two! Neither of the other two are biblical...or is Emma? I should probably know that Blush

Of the boys' names, Rory goes best with your other two, and is a similar sort of level of popularity.

Not convinced by any of the girls' names. I like Louisa a lot, but it's too long alongside the other names. How about Annie instead of Anna? Or Rosa, Nina, Helen, Frances, Lucy?

CuddlyAsACactus · 15/01/2021 09:56

I also think Rory goes the best with the other names.

Gus has a longer name on his BC, so I don't think we would just use Annie on its own, although I am not puritanical about long nakes on the BC generally.

At the minute I'm leaning towards Rory and Margot or maybe Annabel. DH didn't like Rory last time though, so any suggestions for similar names would be much appreciated!

Oh, just had a flashback to another name I loved, but now there's a famous one, so not sure if we can use?

What do people think of Keir?

Louisa - nice but don't like the Lou shortening
Margot - love
Alice - love

Rory - bit inoffensive and meh. There's so many Ro... names in the top100. Dull overdone.
Thomas - love a classic
Henry - love a classic

florascotia2 · 15/01/2021 11:59

OP if it matters, Thomas is Bliblical (New Testament; it means 'twin') but it's become a very classic and timeless name in English-speaking countries and also in many other places. it fits very well with your existing DC names. So does Henry.

William, George, Edward/Edgar/Edmund/Edwin, Robert, Peter, James would be similarly classic names.

Emma is not Biblical - it's Germanic. It's another very classic name. So are Louisa and Alice. As I'm sure you know, Margot is originally a shortening of the classic name Margaret. It's a nice name but having a bit of a surge in popularity at the moment, if that matters to you. There's an interesting graph here:

Gus, Emma and Erin
Gus, Emma and Sophie
Gus, Emma and Helena
Gus, Emma and Josephine

I like Louisa best out of your choices

CuddlyAsACactus · 15/01/2021 12:49

Thank you flora Smile! Yes, I think Thomas was a disciple and Saint. There is a gospel of St Thomas etc. That was in there somewhere Blush.

Josephine is lovely too! Thanks for that.

YoniAndGuy · 15/01/2021 12:54

Yes Josephine is a good shout.

Rory and Gus work well, especially if he is an Angus. Thomas and Henry don't fit with Gus but they do with Emma. But - bit boring. Rory works with both.

Louisa, Alice - I find them both dull and don't like as much as Emma.

CuddlyAsACactus · 15/01/2021 12:59

Yes, we love Emma because it travels so well, and while it is a bit safe, I still find it beautiful. Gus we thought worked in a number of languages too, which we liked.

Think Margot and Alice would fit that criteria too. It's harder with boys, but maybe Kasper or Frederick? We are a bit of a mixed bag in terms of family and heritage! Which is lovely, as a lot of options. Arguably, the names which don't travel quite so well might be the Irish ones, which is DH's family. Maybe something like Patrick which is easy to spell no matter where you are.

We’ve got a Francis, works well as either male or female.

We’re having a girl and have Julia and Lillian on our list.

Henry and Louisa. They are classic feeling but not overused so fit best with Gus and Emma to me. Rory and Margot feel a bit trendy (although Rory may be more of a classic in Scotland), and Alice and Thomas are quite popular.
