Austin is a beautiful name. I love it. I have a very elderly relative named Austin and he is a lovely man.

Sarcobaleno · 14/01/2021 18:44

I like all your names apart from the boys names beginning with R. Others are lovely. Girls names all gorgeous but if you want to avoid overly popular names that rules out Isla.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 15/01/2021 12:45

Boys

Raphael. Definitely. Raphaels grow up to be gorgeous. Trust me Smile

I also like:

  • Freddie
  • Gabriel

Girls

My favourites are:

  • Rebecca
  • Rachael

I love your boys list, I might add Luca, Leo, Felix, Otto, Nathanial (nn Nate). As others have said I’d avoid Isla if popularity bothers you. Maybe Iona, Nina, Fern or Hazel. Marnie is cute, maybe Cassia?

Plutostar787 · 15/01/2021 14:37

Thank you all so much for all the suggestions.
I’m going to add Gabriel, Dexter, Nathaniel, Rowan, Rafe and Max/Maxim to the list!

I find girls so much harder. I think I’ll cross off Isla. My reservation with Marnie is that I feel like it should be short for something but I’m not sure what! I quite like Fern, Iona, Cassia and Helena so will add those!

@NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace I think Raphael is such a gorgeous name, if only I could persuade DH!

@Plutostar787 if you want to avoid anything overly popular I'd personally suggest you get a list of the top 100 girl and boy names and avoid them.
Your girls list is lovely Marnie and Heidi are both lovely and Marnie especially is so underused. I love it. I bet a totally different nickname than you anticipate will organically develop with that name. Martha, Audrey, Verity Clementine, Felicity, Margaret (Maggie), Jemima and Cleo and Greta and Lucy I love too.
I'd suggest avoiding the whole Reuben, Roman, Rowan tranche of similar sounding names. My baby daughter is called Rowan and if I'd realised how popular the name has got (look at the graphs and it's still rising fast) at the same time as names like Roman then, nice as the name is, I'd have avoided it. She's in a small nursery class with 2 Romans. I predict the names will date badly.
Rafe on its own if pretty unusual but it'll probably be Raffy day to day and there's increasing numbers every year of Ralph, Raffertys and Raphael's about. Raffy feels a very up and coming nickname, so I'd probably avoid it (though it's not yet in the same league as names booming like Roman/Rowan and so on)

Austin would be a really good choice as it's been falling in numbers for a few years now so is very underused but such a lovely name. I really love Miles too.
