What are your thoughts on this name? For a boy. Thanks in advance!

Ours has the nn Callie, Pas and PJ (with her initials)

OhThatNamingThing · 23/01/2021 13:46

Ours goes by Callie most, but that’s not so good for a boy but Pas/Paz or an initial nn could be good

Just to update, we had our little boy recently and went with the name Pascal after all! Family love the name, including our elderly English grandparents, and so do our neighbours in France.

I don’t like it much, but it’s not awful.

Lots of names are used in England and France though eg Samuel - so you should have other options.

ErrolTheDragon · 23/01/2021 17:58

Makes me think of the mathemattician Blaise Pascal, but that's perhaps a bit niche!

Yes (and the probably defunct programming language) - but they're positive associations.

Joolsin · 23/01/2021 18:03

@MilkMoon

In Ireland, Pascal is not chic and French. There’s a doleful RTE news reporter called Pascal Sheehy who is so often talking to camera in wellies. in a flood or rainstorm that he’s generally known as Plastic Sheeting.

I’d class it with Noel as a name.

I agree. My daughter left her car with a mechanic she thought was called Pascale (romantic French pronunciation!). No, he was just run of the mill Pascal from Co. Meath Grin

I like it, only ever known one Pascal, an English guy, who was really lovely.

Roselilly36 · 23/01/2021 18:22

Just seen your update, many congrats & a great choice of name IMHO.

I like it a lot, but I think that people in the UK would often mispronounce it, and I suppose it would have a "look at how different I am" vibe.

DrCoconut · 23/01/2021 20:52

My brother is Jean Pascal. It's a good name.

ForeverBubblegum · 23/01/2021 20:58

Makes me think of Pascal's triangle, and by association pointless maths lessons. I also can't imagine a Pascal that isn't in their 80's. Sorry but I wouldn't use it.

GavsCloakOfInvisibility · 23/01/2021 21:01

Why do people never RTFT?

Congratulations OP Flowers

3JsMa · 23/01/2021 21:03

Congratulations!
I really like French names but Pascal will always remind me of Pascal Sauvage from Johnny English.Played by John Malkovitz,he had this sexy,French accent.

Countrywalking · 23/01/2021 21:19

Hate it

SenoraSurf · 23/01/2021 23:15

I love Pascal. I've started teaching a year 12 boy with this name and it's so cool, never taught one before.
Everyone calls him pas.
