So I’ve posted a couple of names here before asking individual opinions but this is our preliminary list! We like probably more old fashioned names but would prefer to steer clear of Top 100- we both have names which whilst popular now for babies were very uncommon when we were children and we prefer it that way.

Boys-
Edmund
Magnus
Quentin

Middle names would be Wilfred & James

Girls-
Emmeline
Madeline
Persephone

Middles names two of Rose, Alice, Frances, or Helen.

Other suggestions most welcome!

2.Edmund - nice, although I prefer Edward personally
1.Magnus - lovely and strong, though I'm not keen on "Gus"
3.Quentin - it's okay, not my fave

2.Emmeline - pretty, great namesake
3.Madeline - prefer the original Madeleine
1.Persephone - guilty pleasure for me, but it sounds so beautiful!

I like all your girls - it was hard to pick a fave. You might also like Christabel or Josephine for girls, Maximilian or Hugh for boys.

Edmund - Edmund is lovely. If popularity is a concern, the similar Edward is very popular, and he could end up lost in a sea of Eds and Teddys
Magnus - another great name. It's rising in popularity steadily, and I fell like it comes up a lot in name discussions.
Quentin - there's nothing wrong with it, but I don't warm to it either

Emmeline - it's ok, rising in popularity and (similar to Edmund), not hugely distinct from the popular Emily
Madeline - much prefer the Madeleine spelling, but it's a lovely name
Persephone - I like Persephone, but I would find it hard to use with the current mythology trend everywhere. I also think while Persephone is rare across the country there will be small pockets of popularity leading to two Persephones in a classroom. That's highly area dependent though.

Quentin and Madeline are my faves by far!

Onlinedilema · 07/01/2021 20:48

Edmund is my favourite from your boys list.
I like both Emmeline and Madeline but again prefer the Madeleine spelling.

I would only use 1 middle name as I think 2 middle names with such long names is a bit of a mouthful.

Edmund - I like this
Magnus - this is my favourite
Quentin - I still think of Uncle Quentin from the Famous Five. The only Quentin I know has a brother with a similarly unusual name - they have 6 children between them, all of whom have top 10 names. I don't know whether that means anything but I've always assumed so!

Emmeline - love this
Madeline - I perceive this as very common (as in popular) - is it not any longer?
Persephone - I just think there would be too many mispronunciations.

maddsclairelouise · 08/01/2021 00:08

1.Edmund - a great alternative to the common Edward, really love!
2.Magnus - a very strong but gentle sounding name, love "Gus" as a nickname
3.Quentin - I quite like this one but prefer the other two, but I do really like how this name is quite unique (I don't know any Quentins)

  1. Emmeline - this is on my baby name list, I love Emmeline and think it is a beautiful alternative to the common Emma & Emily
3.Madeline - I honestly wish this was my name rather than the "Maddison" I'm stuck with
  1. Persephone - I love this name, so so pretty!

Edmund - prefer Edward or Edwin but fine. Like Ned as a nn

Magnus - ok. Milo, Miles, Fergus...

Quentin - noooo. It’s the name of a weird old guy.

Middle names would be Wilfred & James - I like both of these better!

Girls-
Emmeline - ok. Prefer Emma or Emilia. Eloise, Elowen, Eleanora, Edwina?

Madeline - ok, prefer Maud, Maidlin, Matilda
Persephone - cool!

Middles names two of Rose, Alice, Frances, or Helen.

Love Frances, love Rose but overused as a middle name, Alice is nice. Helen ok.

DramaAlpaca · 08/01/2021 00:32

That's a very nice list and I don't often say that on here Grin

I don't like Wilfred much but it's fine as a middle name. I like Magnus Wilfred James best.

Persephone, while beautiful, is maybe a bit much. Perhaps Penelope instead?

You might find Emmeline more popular than you think. It might just blend in with all the other names beginning with 'El' that are everywhere now.

AdaColeman · 08/01/2021 00:39

All lovely names, I especially like Edmund and Emmeline.

Rose has been a "go to" middle name for some years now, so I would choose something different.
