Elodie and Emery: too similar??

maddsclairelouise · 07/01/2021 00:32

Hey everyone! Smile
For a very long time my two favorite names have been Elodie (for a girl) and Emery (for a boy) but I've received feedback that they're too similar. Are they?
I agree that they are similar but are they too similar?
If they are too similar, does anyone have any suggestions for names that are similar sounding?
Thanks,
Maddie Smile

Well if it's hypothetical then not really if they're the names you like for each but if you actually had one sex and then the other I wouldn't use the names together, no.

Melody and Emery is nice.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 07/01/2021 11:26

Elodie is nice, but Emery would remind many people of Emery boards (nail files). And yes they do sound too similar for siblings imo, sorry.

diddlediddle · 07/01/2021 14:47

Definitely too similar as siblings.

Grooticle · 07/01/2021 15:09

Too similar for siblings. Do you already have one of them?

toastofthetown · 07/01/2021 15:10

I think that they are too similar for siblings, but as it’s hypothetical is not a problem. There’s no guarantee that you will have a son and a daughter, and if you do, by then there’s a fair chance that your favourite names will have changed.

Chilldonaldchill · 07/01/2021 21:55

Much too similar as siblings. Elodie is nice but Emery is a bit weird (just reminds me of nail files).

maddsclairelouise · 07/01/2021 23:38

Thank you very much everyone! This is very much hypothetical at the moment but I'm grateful for the feedback! Smile

Yes.

Elodie is Ok. Emery is odd.

ivfbeenbusy · 08/01/2021 00:51

Is Emery a made up name?

SquirtleSquad · 08/01/2021 00:53

It definitely is a name. There's one in DS2s class and a sibling at pick up from DS1s class. Small village school.

mimblefish · 08/01/2021 00:57

Emery like an emery board?

I do think they're too similar, purely from the perspective that my dad is called Trevor and my sister is called Heather and when my mum shouted either of their names up the stairs, either both would appear or neither.

maddsclairelouise · 08/01/2021 00:58

@ivfbeenbusy I heard of it first in a SJ Strum YouTube video, as a male name. It can also be spelt Emory

Too similar.

Mollymalone123 · 08/01/2021 03:38

I think Emory is a very old American name but can’t remember where I’ve heard it- maybe a writer? Elodie is lovely -as for Emery I’m afraid it’s looks more like a surname

Edenember · 08/01/2021 10:12

Yes too similar to use together. Elodie and Avery could be a different enough alternative. Still very similar in sound though but the vowel change may be enough and has a similar vibe. Or Elodie and Emmett?

WatermelonKisses · 08/01/2021 10:37

I know a little boy called Emmett. Or there's Emerson, which is similar too. I think your current choices are a little too similar

PrivateParty · 09/01/2021 21:10

Too similar for siblings.. But if you're only having one of them.. Fine! Haha

zeitgeista · 09/01/2021 21:12

i don't think so but before i read the whole post, i thought emery was for a girl.

emptyplinth · 09/01/2021 21:14

I think Emery/Emory is more usually for girls.
Although they sound similar they're very different in terms of register. I'm not sure they work that well together.
