Elodie v Emilia v Mari v Betsi

Which one do you like best? I really like Elodie but will it be a bit too cutesy little girl name for when she's older?

Mari (Welsh name pn Marry)
Betsi (Welsh name pn Betsy)

I know a 40yr+ elodie, so I wouldn't say it's too custsie, I like it.

Elodie is fine - it sounds very French to me, rather than "cute" in the way some English ie/y ending names do (I'd put Elodie in the same camp as Amelie, Sylvie, Coralie etc).

Emilia is gorgeous, but I struggle to get past the Amelia/Emilia thing (in most accents there seems no difference, and there are a lot more Amelia's).

If you live in Wales, both Mari and Betsi are okay (I personally prefer Mari) but outside of Wales they sound much more cutesy to me than Elodie! (Betsi in particular).

What about Tesni? - Not as cutesy and the Tess sound in it would give her a nice nn option if she wants when older.

Elodie is nice in a french accent, but just another El- name otherwise.
Emilia is lovely but too similar to Amelia.
Mari will get spelt as Marie and said as Mahry.

Of them, I'd choose Mari.

I have an Elodie. When she was little she had Eddie as a nick name because it was difficult for her little friends to say. She hates being called that now.

No one has ever called her Ellie or any diminutive of Elodie.

When her name is read out by strangers we get a lot of 'ello - Dee' which is a bit annoying but hey ho.

No other Elodie's in her class/school/activities either.

Personally none of them.

I'd discount names immediately based on there being any doubt about the pronunciation, or any that have 'clever' modern spellings of traditional names.

I know an Elodie in her 40's too and it still really suits her. I've never thought it too cutesy.
Betsi is quite cutesy to me but maybe it's more common in Wales?
Mari I would have pronounced differently to that, more Mahry than Marry. I don't like it as Marry.
Emelia I don't dislike but agree that there's a lot of them around.

@emmathedilemma, Mari is an old welsh name, a form of Mary, and it's pronounced Marry.

Do you live in Wales? Mari is nice. I know lots of nice Maris but it'll get butchered in England.

Elodie is my favourite on that list, I don't think it's cutesy.

Don't go for the E-names: just so overused. Every other child is an Ellie-short-for-something.

Betsi/Betsy is lovely.

I like Mari loads, quite old fashioned probably? I know it's a full Welsh name in its own right but I also like the idea of having a Marianne known as Mari. That way, people will get the pronunciation.

Betsi reminds me of Betsi Cadwaladr health board! Prefer Beti. Elsi also lovely and Nansi.

@Callcat yes I live in Wales hence the spelling of Mari and Betsi it's common here so not really concerned if people don't like the way they look.

Emilia is gorgeous - I think it's the older more traditional version of Amelia and I really like it. I would say it differently from Amelia personally.
I like the look and sound (now I know it) of Mari but wouldn't have immediately known how to pn it. I'd probably have said Mar - ee.
Betsi looks nice. I know a Welsh Betsan - is that the full name normally?

Mari is nice but seems like it is missing something. Like it is a nickname. How about Meredith, then you can call her Merri? Or Merryn?

Elodie is a bit of-the-moment and I think will date, but is very pretty. Melodie is just as pretty but less common!

Emilia a little dull.

Elodie isn't actually all that popular. It's not in the top 100.

Although I may be biased as I only considered Welsh name for my children. I don't think it's missing something either. Also to me, Meredith is an older bloke's name.

As an interesting mix of "ri" and "E", how about Eleri?
