I posted yesterday regarding Rosie or Clara for dd, were just not 100% sure on them so thought I'd ask for advice regarding the rest of our list, its seems we just can't make a decision?

Rosie
Clara
Anna
Alice
Isabel
Anya
Thea

Rosie - I prefer Rose
Clara - not a fan
Anna - classic nice
Alice - like
Isabel - my fav
Anya - not keen
Thea - not keen

Irre247 · 01/01/2021 15:49

Clara is my favourite, I think it’s a really pretty name.

IggyAce · 01/01/2021 15:51

Clara or Thea would be my choice.

daisypond · 01/01/2021 15:57

I really love Anna. It’s my strong favourite, but all your names are nice.

Pieceofpurplesky · 01/01/2021 16:00

Rosalie rather than Rosie.
I like Clara but it sounds odd in some accents (friend's pronunciation is more Claire-a)
I like Anna but the others wouldn't be on my list.
Thalia?
Prefer Isabella

MerryChristmasToYou · 01/01/2021 16:00

Rosie - ok
Clara - don't like
Anna - like
Alice - would use
Isabel - overpopular but nice. Don't like Izzy.
Anya - ok but much prefer Anna
Thea - don't like

Lucy830 · 01/01/2021 16:09

Clara sounds classy and pretty. That’s my favourite from your list.

I used to love Isabel but I know 5 Isabel’s (well) and I have become very bored of it.

Thea I used to like but again, I know two, well and 2 in dds class so feel similarly about that name.

Really not a fan of Anya.

Rosie, I know two, they are dogs (as in canine).

Good luck with name search, it’s a minefield.

pinkpinecone · 01/01/2021 16:39

They're all nice, although to me Rosie is a pet's name. My favourites are Thea, Anya, Isabel and Anna.

Chilldonaldchill · 01/01/2021 16:45

Thea and Clara are beautiful.
Anya is lovely.
Anna and Alice are very nice.
Isabel is over used.
I don't like Rosie.

YoniAndGuy · 01/01/2021 17:20

Anna

partyatthepalace · 01/01/2021 17:30

Rosie - prefer as a nn for rose etc as bit little girl on its own
Clara - popular but lovely
Anna - lovely, classic, underused
Alice - nice but a lot of them, bit little girl
Isabel. - lovely but a lot of them
Anya - OK, not as nice as Anna
Thea - nothing-y

WhatAreWordsWorth · 01/01/2021 19:28

Rosie and Anna are my favourites from your list. Love Anna.

Clara’s so popular now and I don’t understand why, I always think it sounds a bit clunky.

Firebird83 · 01/01/2021 19:46

Anna, definitely. I agree Clara sounds a bit clunky. I find the KHLAR sound quite harsh.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 01/01/2021 19:49

Wow, I much prefer the rest of your list to Rosie (or even the lovely Clara - which is still part of the "old- lady" trend resurgence - like Ada, Mabel, Florence, Evelyn, Iris etc)

  1. Rosie - a cute nn
  2. Clara - very pretty but a bit trendy at the moment
  3. Anna - gorgeous classic, simple, elegant, international - perfect!
  4. Alice - English classic, suits all ages, can't really go wrong
  5. Isabel - beautiful, classic and elegant (just a shame there are lots of similar Isabelle's/Isabella's at the moment)
  6. Anya - quirky and fun (but you can use this as a nn/pet name for Anna?)
  7. Thea - lovely and classical but could have pronounciation issues
Candycane2020 · 01/01/2021 19:50

Rosie - don’t like this. Sounds too sweetie. Go with a full name like Rosemary or Rosalind and shorten to Rosie maybe.
Clara - like
Anna - beautiful
Alice - classic
Isabel - too many around and I dislike Izzy
Anya - most unusual of your list. Like
Thea - like

Katjolo · 01/01/2021 19:53

Thea is my fave.

finallychangedmyusername · 01/01/2021 21:01

Alice and Anna are my favourites, both non-fussy classical timeless gorgeous names.
I also really like Clara.

Anya and Isabel are ok - I prefer Isobel but know a lot of little Izzys.
Rosie is lovely, but as a nickname for Rose, Rosa, Rosita, Rosina, Rosalie.
Thea I don't see the appeal in sorry - I find it quite "of the moment".

PoppiesinOctober · 01/01/2021 21:02

Rosie - It's okay
Clara - It's nice, but I don't get MN's obsession with it lately
Anna - Like
Alice - Not too bad
Isabel - Don't like. So overused.
Anya - It's okay
Thea - Don't like

Viviennemary · 01/01/2021 21:06

Rosie quite nice
Clara ok not personally keen
Anna ok
Alice nice
Isabel nice
Anya ok
Thea don't like

Bruce2 · 01/01/2021 21:31

Anna
Clara
Isobel
Alice

Any of those are fab choices.

Anna & Clara being my favourite two

Pieceofpurplesky · 01/01/2021 21:34

Rosanna?

Sarahandduck18 · 01/01/2021 22:54

Clara or Anya

MercyBodle · 02/01/2021 05:44

Every one of your names is lovely, usable and modern but also timeless, so I can see why you're finding it hard! Can you cross off any for not sounding great with your surname?

Rosie - sweet, characterful, accessible.
Clara - I prefer the more unusual Clair-ah pronunciation. Generally a well-liked, sophisticated name but the usual pronunciation sounds hard to me.
Anna - strong and classic, one of my favourites.
Alice - classic but sweeter, gentler feel than Anna.
Isabel - feisty, characterful. The popularity would put me off a little though.
Anya - sophisticated but accessible. Not over-used.
Thea - gentle, ethereal sounds. Interesting, but I prefer stronger sounds.

My favourites are Anna, Anya, Rosie and Alice.
